During a stroke in February, I was tested for all sorts of clotting disorders, tests including lupus anticoagulant, protein c, protein s, antithrombin 111, and factor 5. also gene mutation test negative, yet when I ask what the problem is that requires lifelong coumadin, all I am told is that I have hypercoagulable state. Testing was done by a respected hemotologist, so what is the problem? Anyone going through the same thing, and have no answers?

Sorry Rolea, that you are going through such a trying and frustrating time. I am also sorry I don't have any info on the subject to share. My father had a stroke in Nov, but it was not related to anything like that. Have you previously been dx'd with any autoimmune problems? I sure hope they figure it all out for you and give you some answers. Have you been able to find out anything on the web? Is it possible that they are giving you the coumadin to keep your blood from forming another blood clot. Isn't that what caused the stroke? I'm thinking on these lines because I've seen my grandmother go through this. But, they didn't keep her on the coumadin forever.

Just a thought!... hope you get an answer from the doctor. That would be a good place to get your answer.

Thanks for the imput..I dare say most of the doctors I have seen don't have a clue to what my problem is. I appreciate your thoughts,it helps to think someone is actually listening to me. I have changed primary care physician, and he does listen to my questions, so hopefully one day I will have answers. Thanks again
