Hi Kathryn,
Well, I don't really have any answers for you, but my mom has that problem repeatedly--has her whole life. Sometimes it's her hemoglobin, sometimes her iron, sometimes both that are low. She's frequently called anemic. They thought it was due to heavy periods/endometrosis at one point, but she had a hysterectomy and the problem continues. They can never figure out why. She keeps having colonoscopies and they did a stool check for blood/cancer. Right now the hemo. is 12, but it has been in the single digits. (I think it was 7 once.)
HER mom has diabetes and psoriasis, which I understand are both autoimmune diseases. I have tons of strange symptoms and an elevated ANA. Mom also suffers from Barrett's esophagus and has bowel problems--polyps, lots of other bowel stuff. She is also unusually tired from time to time.
I've never seen anything about hemoglobin in relation to lupus before, but I'd love to know if you find out there is a connection. I keep telling mom she ought to just be tested for the ANA if nothing else, but I think she is skeptical right now.
Anyway good luck to you and please pass on any info or websites you come across addressing this!~I'll do the same HUGS DeeDee
