Newly diagnosed with lots of questions
Hi, I was recently diagnosed with SLE last week. I started Plaquenil right away but since it's only been a week it has not started working yet. I seem to have all of the classic lupus symptoms. In fact once I finally made it to a Rheum. I was diagnosed in one appointment with follow up blood work confirming the diagnosis. My biggest issue is the ongoing rash problem I can't get rid of. I have the sun sensitivity for sure but also get the rash at random times when indoors. My rash is not the classic butterfly rash rather much more like a bad sunburn where my face gets very red all over and extremely itchy. After awhile it starts to crust over and then dry out. It looks like really bad dry skin and splotchy. I noticed today that I got red itchy patches on both of my arms even with SPF100. I am a pharmaceutical rep and spend a great deal of everyday in my car as well as getting in and out of my trunk in the full sun hours. What can I do to minimize my rash problem and what types of things can I put on my rashes when they get very itchy? I am a sun lover with two young girls and very active outdoors and am having a very hard time adjusting to the lifestyle change. Anyone else have any suggestions on how to cope with such a major change in lifestyle and how much of a lifestyle change is necessary?
