Question positive then negative ANA's??
Hello,
In late July...for the first time, I had a high ANA reading and was told I most likely had Lupus. A week ago, I had my regular doctor run the ANA's again..and now they are negative...not low, but negative. I'm only taking Lodine (anti-inflammatory), which I'm told won't supress the ANA's... is it common to have Lupus or some type of autoimmune disease and have a negative ANA reading? I thought ANA's would always be there regardless...

HELP

It happens from time to time. It could have been the lab's mistake. You could have what doctors call lupus fruxe (which means Lupus Frustration) - basically you're in the developmental stages. Some people's ANA's test positive and they never develop Lupus while others can have every other indicator, but never develop a positive ANA.

You might want to check out the book that's considered the "Lupus Bible" - gives you a lot of foundation information. It's called The Lupus Book - it has a teal green cover. I got it at the library...
