lupus and back pain-Kidney - Lupus Message Board

I have had back pain for a while and the doctors think it is a muscle spasm. It sometimes radiates around to my stomach. Sometimes I get nausuas off and on eating or not doesn't seem to make any difference. I have gone to a Gatrologist, he found only irratable bowel syndom. alot of time when I void I feels like my insides are soar. What would symptom of kidney problems be like? I was just dx with lupus a cople of mos. ago but have been seeing a rhem. for about a year now. I would appreciate any advice?

Hi there--sorry about your dx of lupus. I was dx in July of 2001 and do have severe kidney involvement. Does your rheummy do regular lab work on you? A urine/protein? Typically, there is no pain assoicated with lupus nephritis. It is very silent and is only indicated through lab work. I'd ask your doctor for a thorough lab work up--including a 24 hour urine to rule out any kidney involvement. A 24 hour urine is a pain to do but it is at least accurate.
