Angry disability and school question

Is it really true that if you are enrolled in a college course and if onw of the needed classes is to physically demending that they have to make consessions for a disabled person to take the class of to offer a diffrent class? I am going to be putting this to the test soon and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this.

I started police academy classes in January of 02 and I was well then, I was in remission and doing great I was riding my bicycle 15 miles a day, running and working out getting ready for D.T. (defensive Tactics)
I was going to take it this past January but my world fell apart in October of 02. I am now unable to ride, run or workout. Hell I can hardly pick up the kids toys on the floor these days. I had to drop out the last 2 semesters because I was so sick and I am going back. I am taking 2 very easy classes so it shouldn't be a problem. But soon I will be left with onyl 2 classes that are going to cause a problem, DT and Weapons. In DT they make you run 2 miles then come back to the class room and do sit ups push ups and ground fighting. I can't do that but I have credits in the ble program so it would be stupid for me to change my degree and have to start over again I also have a 3.55 GPA. I have heard that by law they have to let me take the class but not do the physical stuff or to give me an atlernate class. Since I am only in this for the A.S. degree it shuldn't matter but I am not sure they will go for it. I asked the director of the program about it and he said no we dont offer any consessions to anyone. This to me seems like it is against the ADA. I am a self pay student so I have no legal requirements to go work off my schooling fees at any police dept so they have to offer me a substitute class or something right? I feel like I am being discrimanated against.

BTW I Cant spell so ignore my mispelings ok. lol

Oh I better be a bit ore clear. The classes are through a college not run by the police department. The college is a state accredited school and they accept grants so I dont see how they can pull this.

I would look into it if I were you. Have you talked to the Dean of the school yet? That might be the next place. If he doesn't correct things it might be time to get a lawyer to represent you on the ADA thing. Good luck!!

Good questions? I think you'll probably have to see
a Lawyer for this one. Were there any kind of physical
requirements listed or that you had to pass to be admitted to this program? If so, I don't think they would be obligated to do anything for you since your situation has changed. What are you planning to do with this education? Could you use the credits you already
have and put it toward Probation officer or Dispatch
or something in a similar field. Maybe if you talked to
a counslor looking at your problem from that angle
something could be done to help you get a degree you
can use and still utilize the credits you already have
with out having to start all over on a new degree
program. Sometimes it only adds a few more classes.
