disability and school question
Is it really true that if you are enrolled in a college course and if onw of the needed classes is to physically demending that they have to make consessions for a disabled person to take the class of to offer a diffrent class? I am going to be putting this to the test soon and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this.
I started police academy classes in January of 02 and I was well then, I was in remission and doing great I was riding my bicycle 15 miles a day, running and working out getting ready for D.T. (defensive Tactics)
I was going to take it this past January but my world fell apart in October of 02. I am now unable to ride, run or workout. Hell I can hardly pick up the kids toys on the floor these days. I had to drop out the last 2 semesters because I was so sick and I am going back. I am taking 2 very easy classes so it shouldn't be a problem. But soon I will be left with onyl 2 classes that are going to cause a problem, DT and Weapons. In DT they make you run 2 miles then come back to the class room and do sit ups push ups and ground fighting. I can't do that but I have credits in the ble program so it would be stupid for me to change my degree and have to start over again I also have a 3.55 GPA. I have heard that by law they have to let me take the class but not do the physical stuff or to give me an atlernate class. Since I am only in this for the A.S. degree it shuldn't matter but I am not sure they will go for it. I asked the director of the program about it and he said no we dont offer any consessions to anyone. This to me seems like it is against the ADA. I am a self pay student so I have no legal requirements to go work off my schooling fees at any police dept so they have to offer me a substitute class or something right? I feel like I am being discrimanated against.
BTW I Cant spell so ignore my mispelings ok. lol
