Hey!! I have Lupus and alot of the symptoms you described! I used to take alot of medicine, but this past year got off most of it!! I still take a little pain medicine! I cant really do anything for the "memory loss" ha..haa... just laugh and make alot of "blonde jokes" when I do something stupid!! I can tell you, like I tell anyone that asks....It can be rough, but it wont always be that bad! I just go day by day, get up and go!!! Dont stay in bed, and let it get you! I had two beautiful children and was diagnosed during my pregnancy, I could not give up on them!!! I kept going!!! I know your scared, but it will be ok!! Living with it for over 4 years now!!! Just DONT GIVE UP AND KEEP ON GOING!! GOOD LUCK ptommygirl

I relate to your symptoms plus I had a fever all the
time. Can't help you with a Rheumie I just stayed
with my regular family Dr. I do know that specialists
want to run tests all the time!!!!! Most people
with mild lupus can be treated by a reg. DR.
Good Luck.

I hope you found a good rhumatolgist. Though I have been to several specialist and have had many tests, I think they are the best people to help you. Unfortunately, the answers aren't always out there. I tested positive for ANA as well but I don't have any symptoms so they are still doing tests. But in the meantime, these doctors may be able to help you with any pain you are having as well as give you tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle. Regardless of whether you have Lupus or not, you need to get to the bottom of what is making you feel ill and take care of yourself. Plus, a positive attitude always helps! Good luck!

I have had positive ana tests for almost four years. Went to rheumatologist and she didn't think I had lupus. I get my ana tested every six months and it is always different, one time it was even negative. You can have a positive ana test without lupus, at least so far I haven't had it. I think it's fairly common.

yes, that's true, a positive ANA doesn't always mean lupus! But if you are sick with symptoms I would continue to find answers and treatments that help you feel better. It can be a long road, and not a fun one! But if you are sick, it is best to get to the bottom of things and get treated than it is to ignore it and maybe suffer unknown damage that shows no symtpoms. I stayed with a GP for a long time before I finally found a rheumy that I like and I travel a long way to see my rheumy. Stay proactive in your care - it is ultimately up to YOU to take care of yourself and that means getting the treatment you need to feel better! Good luck!

Hi, I, too, got much better treatment from a rheumatologist. That is logical because a main long term symptom folks with lupus must deal with is arthritis. Arthritis is a rheumatologist's speciality.

Unhappy

Today I received news that my 12 year old brother tested positive on the ANA. I ha've heard that you can get a positive ANA from other medications but he also has alot of other symptoms:he has always been a sick boy,he suffered from Viral Meningitis when he was 8 and has been contastly with high fevers and alot of muscle pains and is always tired. I thought he was just lazy. He takes Zoloft for depression since he was having a lot of problems in school.
Three years ago my cousin died of Lupus. She suffered from it for 7 long years. She didn't take very good care of herself and had to go thru a lot of pain. I am very scared that my brother might have this disease..I really don't know what to do.. My parents are in complete shock. His Doc referred him to a rhumatolgist, we have the app on June 18th. Hope everything goes OK and I'm over reacting.
Sorry for such a long message.. but I'm going crazy here...

After high ANA, good treatment involves a bevy of Lupus specific tests....especially Double Stranded DNA antibodies.

Don't panic with a high ANA...I had 1:320-homogenious pattern, malar rash, years of joint pains- thought I'd die of fear- was CERTAIN it was Lupus.

All the other tests (about a half dozen all proved negative- NO LUPUS)

Rash was dermatophytosis (cured with griseofulvin)....well, joints still hurt...hey, that's life....a new lease on same!

ANA went to normal- negative in a couple weeks. Probably caused by a severe case of bronchitis the month before. All my worry was for nothing.

But do remember those follow-up tests.
