Hi. I was diagnosed with lupus 14 years ago. I just found these boards and they are awesome. I'm curious if anyone has other family members with lupus? My sister, grandmother, 1st cousin, a much more distant cousin and I all have lupus, with varying degrees of symptoms. And I have one sister who is not affected. However, my sister and I have had just about the EXACT same problems and take the exact same meds, although she now takes a lower dose of pred. than I......grrrrrrrr. Actually, I'm happy for her but, hey, I can still be jealous! lol I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had so many family members with lupus.
hi there, in answer to your question, i have two other members of my family with lupus. first to be dx was my father, he has sle. next my grandmother, she also has sle. then there was myself, i was dx{waited 10 yrs for a dx} with discoid lupus and sticky blood. i fear my younger sister might be affected, she has been getting rashes on her face, sore joints and has had a few fainting spells. my older brother has also been getting the rashes. i think my siblings are afraid and are running away from the problem{i really dont blame them for that} but as i live 120 miles away from them, its hard to tell if they are taking this. i want them tested, but on the other hand i dont want to frighten them. i know that my brother has been tested before, but the result was negative. i have told him he needs to keep getting tests, as it is notoriously hard to get a dx. but there is only so much i can do about it. hopefully they will be alright. anyway sorry about going on, i hope this helps, all the best sarah
My mother had SLE, and she's the only one in her whole huge family that had anything like this. She was dx when I was 7, now I am 42 and have tested borderline ANA, so I won't be too surprised if I do have it. My mother was a huge worrier, as I am too, so much so that I was put on anti-anxiety med. So no doubt the stress level in the environment could have something to do with approach of lupus.
