Question Lupus and SEGS

When your lupus is flaring up, are the SEGS (CBC) in your blood work affected? I'm not quite sure what the SEGS mean, does anyone know?

Hi lademarco,

SEGS stands for segmental neutrophils. These are the first line defending white blood cells. When these are elevated, it means the body is fighting an infection. So, to answer your question yes! We are at a higher risk for infection because of Lupus and our immune systems being so out of wack. Hope this helps

Angelic,

Thank you for your reply regarding SEGS. My SEGS are 24 (normal 50-75),and, my Lymphs are 62 (normal 24-44), should I be concerned?

Thanks,
Lynne

Hi there Lynne

No problem that's why I am here! Lymphocytes are white blood cells that fight off antibodies. I would think that since yours are high, your body is fighting something! What are your symptoms? Do you have Lupus? There are specific antibody tests that your doctor can test for. If you want to know, let me know and I can post them here Take care!
