Actually, Lupus is known to cause inflammation and irritation of the joints (pain too). It doesn't usually break down the joints. Rheumatoid Arthritis does though- I can't remember.. does your mom have that? If so, that can cause breakdown of the joints and synovial fluid (joint fluid). Take care
