Please Help With Blood Results

Hi There!

I recently went to my doctor due to a rash that I have been having all over my body. It is a sunburn type rash that comes and goes, and actually burns like a sunburn. The burning at this point has gone. While I was there, they took some blood. They tested me for Lymes Disease (negative results), Parvovirus (also negative) and inflamation. My results are as follows:

ANA: 15
Double Stranded DNA: 6.4

I have no idea what these results means, but they said that I might have Lupus. At the same time, my ten year old son has gotten the same rash that I have. I'm totally freaking out about this. I do have Raynaud's Syndrome and have had it for about 20 years. I also have scoliosis. Other than that, I'm pretty healthy. I should mention that RA runs in my family. Could someone please tell me what these test results mean. My doctor's office is trying to schedule me an appointment with a specialist but I'm sure it will be a while.

Thank you!

Re: Please Help With Blood Results

hi drewsmom ...
follow the first sticky post called 'Answers to Lupus test results questions' you will find a link that will take you to a site that can help understand test results ... v.informative
the ANA results seems fairly low (i think >80 rings lupus alarm bells) + i think the dsDNA might be indicative of something ? (but then i am not a medical professional and this is just my opinion) also other autoimmune disease show up in ANA etc
there are 11 criteria used to diagnose lupus and you need 4 ... one of the other sticky posts can give you more info on that.

Hang in there! Hope you get your answers soon!

Re: Please Help With Blood Results

All the labs are different, Just wanted to share. On one page of my lab work.
It Shows:

Antinuclear AB

IU/ml Method of reporting Titer Method of reporting

<7.5 Not Det.
8 1:40-1:80
15 1:80-1:320
30 1:160-1:640
50 1:320-1:1280
75 1:1280-1:5120
100 1:2560-1:10240
>=200 >=1:10240

Very strange how these numbers work. My number is at 8 which is very low positive and equals to 1:40. On this lab It should be under 7.5.
Every lab is different.
Take Care

Re: Please Help With Blood Results

Thank you both for your replies! This has been very helpful for me. I really don't have any other symptoms other than the rash which I think is some type of viral thing where my son has the same thing. My mother does have RA so I'm concerned that an autoimmune disorder is possible. Thank you again and I'll definitely let you know how I make out with the specialist...still waiting to hear when.

Take Care!
