Is this what they call inflammation of the ribs? When I was sleeping last night, it was hurting my ribs and then it was hurting inside that area. So I turned over and it did the same thing. Layed on my back and it still hurt. But as soon as I sat up, it didn't hurt at all. It lasted for a 1/2 hour. I should of taken Ibuprofen and never thought about it. It was 4:00 in the morning and was so frustrated that I almost got up.

What do they call this?

it sounds like it might be costrochrondritis (not sure of the spelling).

But even though I didn't have the pain in the chest area, would that still be called costochondritis.

costochrondritis is inflammation of the connective tissue of the ribs.

With lupus, is that a common thing when you're sleeping, to have the pain wake you up from laying on your side?

I didn't have any problem breathing or nothing like that. It hurt the side terribly and just made it hurt all the way through. Does it even hurt when laying on the back? For a half hour that night no matter how I layed, it hurt.

Since lupus is a connective tissue disease is that why costochondritis is an inflammation of the connective tissue of the ribs?

Do you have to have any breathing problems when you have this with the pain?
