nose sores

I have been very very recently diagnosed with lupus (I am a 24 y.o female) and I don't know too much about it.
I have read that lupus can also cause nose sores- I have lately and for a few months had TERRIBLE nose sores and I'm wondering if this is because of lupus...I have asked a few non-lupus friends who have had them too but I have them constantly, and often more than one at once and sometimes both sides at once.
I can only describe them as a very painful and sore pimple inside my nose. Everytime I touch my outer nose it sends shooting pain through it and it hurts to move my nose or blow it or anything. I don't pick my nose (I have read this can cause nose ulcers), I barely blow it or even really bother them or anything. I have been using rubbing alcohol and then a nasal lubricant after several times a day, and in the past have tried Bactine, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, everything. They go away and then come back all the time.

I am waiting to see the doctor in the next month, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone had experience with this problem and any solutions that have helped?

Thanks all and take care

Re: nose sores

The best thing I've found is Abreva. As soon as you feel a sore coming on start using it. It's about $15.00 for a small tube but to me is worth every cent. I've suffered with nose sores since I was small and once I found this stuff I've never had them again as long as I start using it the second I feel one coming on.
Hope this helps

Re: nose sores

Wow, never thought about trying Abreva. I've had a nose sore for 16 years. It is on my left side and I've told many dr's about it and they just looked at me strange. Funny, it was one of the reason's I was dx w/ Lupus.

Like I said, I've had it since '93 and for no reason. It just showed up. I was only dx w/ Lupus end of August. It bleeds, crusts over, burns and sometimes hurts so damn bad. Other times, like when I get a runny nose, I think.. wow, it's cleaning up, then it all dries up again and I end up w/ this huge scab that blocks most of my breathing. I've seen it, it's nasty looking.

When I started the Pred, I was hoping it would go away.. nope, still there. Still drives me nuts. Dr even said that I have a smaller one in my right side, but if I do, it doesn't seem to bother me like the other one. I swear, one day, I'm gonna wake up w/ a perforated septum.

I would suggest to your doctor that he run a specific test for Vasculitis. There are some of these vasculitudes which have nose sores as a symptom. I also have lupus and have nose sores caused by the Vaculitis which was probably caused by having lupus for 30 years without a dx! You need to know if you have Vasculitis or not since it can be very serious.

Re: nose sores

Omg I have had ulcer type sores in my nose for 1.5yrs Dr keeps giving me antibiotics because they always get infected. I will be asking for vasculitis test next time I see him. Wow maybe I just thought I was going nuts. I love this sight the information is great. I also love that I live in Australia and we have discounted medication and free doctors or very discounted specialist.

Re: nose sores

I would like to add also that the sores could just be herpes like the cold sores people get on their lips. I don't want to get anyone "stirred up" or upset. I just had this experience with vasculitis myself and wanted to offer this as a option. Read up on the occurrance of lupus with vasculitis. It isn't unusual to develop one with the other. Vasculitis is basically inflamation of the blood vessels. It can affect different kinds of vessels which can affect various organs etc. It is important to be informed!!
