Re: Recently diagnosed with lupus and needs answers!
Welcome, I have to say that if you have not read the sticky posts at the top of this thread, please take time to do so. There is some wonderful info there on the subject. Arming oneself with a good knowledge of your illness seems to take the edge off the surprise of having a new diagnosis. One can better participate in one's care when they know a bit about their illness. I am not so new to Lupus myself, only having had the diagnosis for a little over 2 years now. I do also have Fibromyalgia, which is sometimes seen accompanying Lupus. I do hope you find the site helpful and if you have any questions, someone here usually has an answer or a source for you to find. Is you specialist a Rheumatologist? Most of us here are under a Rheumatologist care for the lupus.
As for the sleep issues, I became a chronic insomniac about 10 years ago and have fought that problem continually. I do take something mild to aid sleep at night now and also discovered I have sleep apnea that is being treated. I do advise that you pace yourself and if you need to take a break and rest a few minutes throughout the day, then do so. Trying to keep a healthy sleep schedule is also important. I find that when I adhere to a healthy schedule that I feel more rested in the morning. Also know your limitations, don't spread yourself thin as stress can bring on a flare. A little pampering of oneself and saying no!!! seems to help as well.
I do hope you find the site as informative and supportive as I have. Let us know how you are doing!
