Re: vitiligo vs lupus rash

I showed my rheumy the new white patches on either side of my nose that start at the tear duct and go down about 1-1/2 inches but 1/2 inch wide and within the one is a typical brown 'age spot.' He hadn't noticed the area because I always have my eyeglasses on...... I also have plugs of grey hair on my head - along the back of my neck. His only comment was yes it is virtiligo and he has small round spots on his hands and elsewhere, too. He didn't seemed concerned nor offered any comment as to whether it is related to the lupus but I sensed that it is not directly related.

From my initial 'research' it has not been classified as a lupus symptom...just a cosmetic issue especially for dark skinned people. It should be interesting to see what happens when Spring and Summer come.....I am pale white in winter but tan easily.

Don't stress over it - it is very common. There are all sorts of treatments by dermatologists if it is an issue for you.

Re: vitiligo vs lupus rash

hi, thanks for the reply!
mine is definitely agitated by the sun, i am olive complexion and now tan white - LOL i don't get it?

it bothers me cause i don't know what it is
cosmetically it doesn't phase me but i have a solution - i will tattoo my arms + legs ........LOL
there is uva1 phototherapy that will do it good but as far as i know it is in the states and me being on another continent will need to investigate that treatment locally

as far as i understand (and much room for error here) vitiligo is not related to lupus but also an auto immune response (something a bout 3 gene markers that are responsible for pigment but one is faulty)

michael jackson suffered with vitiligo

i was wondering what lupus rashes could LOOK LIKE this and perhaps when i should be looking to lupus i am looking elsewhere ........ go figure

Re: vitiligo vs lupus rash

You can go to google 'images' and see pics of rashes for lupus and others for virtiligo.
Hope that will help you.
