Re: how to explain my Lupus to my kids

Hi, my best answer for your question is to tell them the truth of what your going through. Just try to put it in more simple words that they understand. Tell them it's like your body is allergic to itself and you feel really tired all the time. The sun makes these things worse so you stay out of it. That's pretty much how i told my kids, but mine are 9 and 7. Just try to base the information you give them on how mature they are and try not to scare them. Alot of people say not to tell them but kids know when something is wrong and they need something to explain what is going on around them and to their parent.....hope this helped in some way.

Re: how to explain my Lupus to my kids

I know I must sound like a broken record when I complain about my aches and pains. I find it simply that even though I say I don't feel well, I still don't think another can fully grasp the extent of the symptoms that one with Lupus experiences. (I also have FMS). So I finally learned to just don't say anything unless I get to the point I cannot function at all.

Re: how to explain my Lupus to my kids

Hi, Im all for telling the kids in simple word whats going on. Mine boys, 12 and 10. They expected me to play and do everything with them like I always did. They didn't understand why I suddenly couldn't do all playing in the sun anymore. After I told them in simple words, they understood, that its not always possable to do all the activities with them anymore, they now even see when I'm not feeling well, and know how to handle the situation.

Good luck to you
