New test results

I need some help with my numbers because I am totally confused. Back in March 2012 is when the 1st set of blood work was done. ANA came back 1:80
and RNP's 7.2. In August my ANA is 1:160 and RNP's is 8.0. Are the last test results higher then the first set? The doctors have me on Plaquenil 10 mgs. since August 2012, which is not a long time. I am actually seeing a new rheumy in Dec. due the fact one doctor was too laid back in treating me and kept on changing her mind and the 2nd was too aggressive. Anyway I thought I knew what I was reading until I saw other peoples numbers and now I don't know anything. Very frustrating! Thanks to those who answer. Linda

Re: New test results

Hi. I think both in your 2nd set are higher than in your 1st set. ANA is a titer test done by diluting your sample with a control substance until the fluorescence disappears. The more dilutions it takes to make it disappear, the higher the reading. 1:160 took one more dilution & so is the higher of the two. (The series is 1:40, 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280, 1:2560, etc.)

I believe anti-RNP of 8.0 is higher than 7.2.

But you should verify, of course!

How have you been feeling since starting Plaquenil? 10mg seems awfully low. I started at 200mg twice daily, then dropped to 200mg once daily about 16 months later. I hope your next doctor works out! Sending best wishes, Vee

Re: New test results

Thanks vee. I don't really feel any different taking plaqunil and I'm guessing the mgs. are too low. Huge difference between what you are taking and me! I think it is more fibro pain I feel rather then lupus. I think they are looking towards MCTD. I will be going to my 3rd rhemy but not until Dec. and I"ll see what he has to say. Thanks for your response
