Today has turned into research day even though I have a million other things I should be doing if only I had the energy - anyway I found an interesting bit of information regarding the Sarsaparilla which is a perenial plant and how they believe it kills spirochete bacteria. It is commonly found in high quality root beers. Of course unfortunately it has not been studied extensively nor does anyone know how much you should take for a therapeutic dosage.
What is interesting is that 2 weeks into treatment with Mepron and Zithromax I woke up with a weird migraine. I opened my eyes and the world was all wavy. Broken lines everywhere...it was disconcerting but I have experienced migraine with aura in the past so I didn't freak out. I then shook for 40 minutes and then had migraine pain the rest of the day.
It hasn't happened since...but looking back on it I had three root beers over a weeks time - I know bad me...I shouldn't have had the sugar but I was trying to deal with the fact that I can't have a glass of wine. Anyway, this was high quality root beer and I know it had large quantities of sarsaparilla in it. Kind of interesting, huh?!? I guess I will have to make that a treat of mine - not very often. I may try to do a little experimentation.
Let me know how it goes Ozarka. Just take it easy though. I wouldn't go crazy until you know how you feel after drinking it. Also I don't know if there are drug interactions. It does say if you consider taking a therapeutic dose or what they think might be one to do it with a doctor's supervision.
Apparently Sarsaparilla is really good for gout, arthritis, fevers, digestive disorders, cancers...it is very cleansing for the liver too. I just wished they had some idea about dosage. I plan on doing some more research.
They used it in Portugal and China to combat syphilis.

Reason: Add some info.
Ekim and Ncgirl,
I found an article on how sasparilla combined with mercury used to be used to treat syphillis back in the olden days. Possibly this was part of the same info you found on this Ncgirl.
Now, I'll try t he saspirilla, but not the mercury
I also called the local health store and they sell sarsparilla in capsules.
I'll try the drink first and see what happens then try the capsules.
Thanks for your advice Ncgirl and for finding this out in the first place; I'll go slow on this and listen closely to how my body reacts.
I have heard one woman says she uses Colloidal Silver and that has really worked for her. She had tried antibiotics first though. Interesting. It isn't regulated so that scares me a bit but I am just trying to find out as much as I can....
It says in my book (really good, very thick, all about nutrition, herbs, supplements, vitamins and minerals to take for illnesses and disorders) that colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic with no known side effects. Can be used with ABX as well safely. They say to get the "standardized" form always and then you know you are always getting the same amt. They say this about almost every supplement/herb etc. I definitely think it is a good idea. It also says garlic is very powerful antibiotic that can be taken with conventional ABX. If you can stand yourself stinking the best way is to take a raw clove like a pill! Both help to fight yeast too I just read! Cool! Very interesting if you can give these ABX a natural, non harmful boost, huh?
Thanks Laurie...that is great to know. I have been eating garlic raw. It is interesting before I was even diagnosed a couple nights I had the worst craving for garlic...so I pured it in the food processor and then spread it on toast and ate it.
Thanks for the info. on colloidal silver...good to know you can take it with the meds.
I found sarspirilla tea at my local grocery store (of all places!)
I brewed a bit and it was, well, less than tastey. Since I"m nonsymptomatic with my lyme, I do know what causes a flare up/ die off and not.
I used some essential oils one time and it made my feet burn/ tingle, knees hurt and in retrospect I realize it was a herx, likely, from the lyme. So in a few days I'll down the tea and let you and everyone know.
Hi Ozarka - that is funny I found it today too - I was going to write to you about it. Yes, let me know how it goes - it will be hard for me to tell in that I am on antibiotics and seemingly in a constant herx at this point although I can probably monitor if it gets a lot worse...Just be careful I did read it can be toxic to the liver if you over do it. Take care and keep me posted...
I have used colloidal silver and I keep it in the house for minor skin infections and have put drops in my ears for ear infections. It works okay, about as good as tea tree oil. I did take some orally, but unfortunately, you have to take a large amount of it to make a difference and it can permanently change your skin color to a very unnatural orange color. They can't fix it once that happens so I really don't want to mess with that. I already have very thin hair and a very skinny, bony figure. I don't want to be orange on top of it all!
