Hi everyone...I'm back. I talked to my llmd and he told me my results from Igenex came back negative except one co-infection that showed some antibodies. He said that tests can be negative depending on how active the disease is at the time of the blood test. Is that true? He said that clinically it seems like I have lyme, so he wants to put me on 3 kinds of antibiotics for 5 days and have me do a urine test to send to Igenex. Has anyone heard of this? Apparently these antibiotics make the disease more pronounced and will cause antibodies to show up in my urine. He says that I may herx on these abx and he said that that would be proof enough that I do have lyme. He wants some sort of a positive test for insurance purposes because I guess the long-term abx can be very expensive. Please give me some advice on what to do. Should I go through with all this? Has anyone had this happen to them...negative blood tests, but positive urine tests? Thanks for your advice!

Hi sickinVT. Just remember that no Lyme test is completely reliable. Even the CDC states that a negative test does not rule out Lyme.

Many people do the urine test. I believe it is called the Lyme *** Assay and you collect one urine sample a day for three days. If it is positive, then they run another test. There should be info about it on IgeneX's site.

Hi SickinVt,
Just a short note to let you know that my daughter tested negative on one and equivical on the other, IGG/IGM, but her urine test by PCR came back positive. She is being treated now with oral medication, but did 5 weeks of IV. I have had no problems with insurance, so I guess the Doctor is right. It seems the insurance industry does not like lyme patients, and gives the Doctors a hard time.

SickinVT, It sounds to me like your doctor is taking a pro-active approach, which is a lot more than many of us had. I would have been grateful to have a doctor like that. I understand that this treatment may sound strange since you didn't see a strong positive on the tests, but you really can't trust those test 100 percent. If you herx on the abx, you will have your answer.
