new meds 4 me, what is your experience w/these?

Hi all. I saw my doc this week and she gave me a new regimen to follow. I find it very interesting, but also a little intimidating. I am wondering how many side effects I should expect from them, please tell me your experience with these drugs. Here is my abx plan for the next few months:

Take zithromax and plaquenil every day. Additionally, rotate these three antibiotics each week on a three-week rotation schedule: mepron one week, flagyl the next week, and clindamyacin the third week, then start again. She also gave me cholestyramine to help remove toxins. If any of you have used this drug, please tell me your experience with it.

She said benadryl and tagamet both help with herx reactions. I thought that was interesting, never heard of that before. I take other things in additional to the prescription drugs including milk thistle, magnesium, liposomal glutithione, fish oils, probiotics, cat's claw, and others.

The two drugs I am most curious about are MEPRON and CHOLESTYRAMINE. Please tell me all you can about your experience with these drugs.

Whao, I'd forget what I'm supposed to take and when. Maybe benadryl just mellows you out. I don't know anything about the regime you are doing, but maybe the theory is that if the lyme bacteria gets immune to one drug you switch and it fights it better. I'm taking a wild guess here.

Hey there,

Of course I know nothing about regime but I'm anticipating good results for you. Hopefully you'll get some replies tomorrow. Ihave heard mention of benadryl for herx but only in passing. Take care, cj

I did zithromax and plaquenil for 4 weeks, until I was weaned off Doxy, then my body went to hell and back..... I suspect I will do it again, as I kept getting better whileon the doxy, zithro, Plaqu combo.... I have not heard of the others.

Re: new meds 4 me, what is your experience w/these?

Hi SleeperWoken - And I thought my LLMDs plan could get confusing sometimes?!?! I have taken the Mepron/Zith. combo for three weeks the first month and it really felt like it kicked the Babs in the butt...I have heard others say that is not nearly enough time and that Babs can come back...Yak! I am hoping it stays away for me.

Looking at your plan the only thing I would be worried about is the fact that you are ony taking each med a week then switching...I am no doctor but I wonder if that is enough time for any of these meds to reach the concentration necessary in the body to kill everything.

I know Laurie swears by the Benadryl for herxes. I haven't taken it because I read somewhere that it can downshift the immune system temporarily - I don't know if this is true - I just know I have always had weird reactions to cold meds and sudafed so I chose not to take it.

Let us know how your plan goes. I think you will know in the first month or two if it is working for you. Maybe your doctor is on to something with the switching around of meds so quickly.

Good luck and Godspeed

I've had the Zithromax/Mepron combo together before and that combo made my mind the clearest it's ever been.

Don't know about the others....Good Luck on your new regime!

Re: new meds 4 me, what is your experience w/these?

I just picked up the cholestyramine. The pamphlet says it's mainly used to lower cholesteral. I will be using it to bind to toxins and get them out of my body. One of the possible side effects is anorexia. I am already stick thin, against my will, of course. But, I don't want to have to worry about losing more weight! Did anyone have this experience with it? I am willing to try it but if I get any thinner I will have to stop. I am 5'9" and only a size 4. Not good.
