Rapid heart beat, fast breathing and not sleeping?

I have no idea what has caused this, I have a rapid heart beat, its been ongoing for the last 24 hours, rapid breathing (at times) and I did not sleep last night at all! It felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest! No pain, just beating fast!

The only thing I can think of is could it be my new generic brand of atarax I take? I just got the new refill for 3 months and it was a tiny green pill instead of the larger white one. There was a note on the container saying it looks different but its the same med.....

Re: Rapid heart beat, fast breathing and not sleeping?

Did you just start that new script? Did you take the first pill yesterday or the day before?

May be wise to contact both your pharmacist (as they know tons about most drugs) and your physician. (I'd start with the pharmacist).

Hyperthyroidism can cause tachycardia as well (and seems I read that Lyme dz can cause hyper and/or hypothyroid. I know it messes with the endocrine system.

Good luck!!

Re: Rapid heart beat, fast breathing and not sleeping?

I have taken Atarax for a year now and this new refill is a different generic brand, so I wasn't sure if this is the case?

Its not as bad during the day, but man it was horrid last night!

Heres hoping a get a good nights sleep!!!!

Re: Rapid heart beat, fast breathing and not sleeping?

But, when did you start the generic brand? Did you start it the day before or the day of the symptoms? (or within the past week)?

They say generics are the same as brand-name drugs, and many are, but that is not the case for all drugs. Synthroid, for one, has differences between generic and brand-name and should never be substituted once a person has started treatment on one.

If you continue to have problems, I'd call and talk the the pharmacist and the doc.

Could be the drugs or could be the disease, but better to check it out!

Good luck. Hope you're doing better!

K
