anyone have weird sores/rash in mouth that comes and goes?

Hi everyone.

Maybe this sounds crazy, but for the past few years, I have had a strange rash on the inside of my mouth and sometimes on my tongue. It almost looks like ulcers but sometimes it is just red patches. It changes appearance and sometimes can be gone altogether. It is the strangest thing I ever saw- I showed it to 3 dermatologists and they had no idea!

Could this be from the lyme? Many of the sores have a white ridge and one of them even has a little dot in the middle, but you can't get a tick bite in your mouth, right?????? Anyway, one of my drs said it could be candida (yeast), but not sure and my LLMD was also stumped.

Any experience or info on this would be great!! Yet, another strange symptom I have had and trying to see if it is lyme related!!!

Re: anyone have weird sores/rash in mouth that comes and goes?

Dear Nancy,
I have had sores in my mouth on and off for years. They kind of look like cold sores or canker sores but they were inside my mouth on my tongue and cheeks. They were quite painful.

Finally an infectious disease specialist diagnosed me with apthous stomatitis.
They don't really know the cause of apthous, possibly a virus. I was treated with colchicine .6 mg orally. That would make the ulcers go away.

I have to say though, now that I have been on Lyme antibiotics for 6 months I have had no outbreaks of these ulcers.

I don't think the sores are from Lyme but it is interesting that mine went away with Lyme treatment.
Take care

Yes, I too get mouth sores. As a matter of fact, I always know that I will be feeling worse with Lyme symptoms because they appear. When I start feeling better from the antibiotics, they go away. There are about 3-5 that appear on the roof of my mouth. I know they are directly related to Lyme.

Re: anyone have weird sores/rash in mouth that comes and goes?

I've had these little ulcers appear on and off for years-inside of my cheeks and gums. It never occured to me until now about the cause. They would definitely seem to come at a time when I over did things..physically...

Glad you posted this. Now I think I understand that it is most likely a virus we all have (humans)...but since our immune systems "our" (Lymies) compromised, our defensive mechanisms just aren't up to speed enough to keep them in check.
