Hi 6blues,
That's the thing with meds, they kill Bb which is vitally important to recovery, but they do not build the immune system. For that purpose, I strongly believe in herbal/nutritional/lifestyle approach.
There are some herbal preparations I've found helpful, though it's better to work directly with a competent (emphasis on competent) herbalist who can tailor a program to your individual needs. However, here are a few good products:
New Chapter Immune Defense- this is a mushroom based supplement, I've had excellent results with it and the herbalist I go to says she has also seen very good results with HIV patients using it. In fact, I had such good results with it that my doctor is now suggesting it to patients. Mind you though, I use it in conjunction with a total health regimen.
Enzymatic Therapy Cell Forte- This is an immune boosting formula. I took it for a while and noticed good results but then it's effects sort of waned. Still worth trying it.
I have also been being really concientious about nutrition, which is rather challenging (to put it politely) when some days I am too wiped out to do more than nuke a frozen dinner. But I try to eat healthy foods, especially raw vegetables and lean sources of protein. I take a protein powder (if I'm not feeling too nauseated) on days when I can't seem to eat enough protein.
Vitamin C- I can't overemphasize the importance of enough (and enough means a LOT more than what the RDA indicates) of this vitamin. Also certain antibiotics greatly deplete the body of C, don't know if they block absorbtion or what. Incidently, this whole thing flared up for me around the time when I quit taking my high doses of vitamin C. B6 and Pantenoic acid support absorbtion. Adele Davis wrote a lot about this and it's effect on the immune system, and whatever anyone may say about her books being dated, I have found that her recommendations DO WORK and produce RESULTS!
Of course all of these, in order to be effective, must be combined with healthy lifestyle, stress reduction, proper sleep, etc.
Hope this is of some help!
