diflucan protocol for lyme treatment (not yeast per se)

figured this was worth sharing... common drug, some of you are already on it... may want to check out recommended doses and talk to your docs about it...cj
PS...edited as i re-read posting rules yikes!

but main idea is below and if your'e interested, you can do more research on your own...

Dr. Fritz Schardt, a german doctor, got lyme disease in 1989. He went thru the typical trial and error like the rest of us...

He eventually came up with the current protocol of 200 milligrams of diflucan a day, for 50 days.
This is followed by 20-30 days of specific penicillins that he recommends. You may have to go through several cycles of this protocol.

It is important to be aware that other drugs that act on the p450 enzyme system, specifically a subset that inhibits CYP3A4. You should not be taking any of these drugs at the same time as you take diflucan.

Some of the common drugs that might interfere with the treatment are erythromycin, amitryptylin, midazolam, Lovastatin, and others, so this has to be gone over with your doc to make sure you are following protocol.

the original interview goes into much more detail, so if you're interested, check it out...

think this is more within rules... cj

CJ

Thanks for posting this. Did you see the thread I started as my LLMD put me on this protocol when I saw her on Tues. Had not heard of it before. Good to know she's on top of current info.

Where did you see ths interview? I would like to look into it more.

Still waiting for ins co authorization to see if I can get this drug.

cj: awesome interview. what's the source?

Dr. E just put me on:
Doxy: 400 mg per day
Diflucan: 200 mg per day

We're the most agreeable, eager bunch of guinnea pigs I've ever seen.

Good luck fellow trail blazers!

Re: diflucan protocol for lyme treatment (not yeast per se)

let's see, i think that's what is was for, hold on. got them.
biaxin - 500 mg twice a day
nexium - once a day
flouconazole (substituted for diflucan) 100 mg 1 day

here's what the walmart insert says:
biaxin xl 500 mg tab - this medicine is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat baterial infections.

nexium -- this medicine is proton pump hihibiytor used to treat heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux. i may be used in combination with antibiotics to treat heliobacter pylori infrection and duodenal ulers.

fluconazole - this medicine is an azole antifungal used to treat or prevent certain fungal infections. it may also be used in some patients to prevent certain fungal infections after bone marrow transplant or to threat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

dr. m said it is for the yeast infection. keeps it from getting really really bad. he also said take plenty of acidolphilis, two with each meal.

Re: diflucan protocol for lyme treatment (not yeast per se)

Hi All

I am on a generic for Diflucan 100mg 2x day. Nothing else other than some supplements. Dosage fits with what Dr S recommended in piece cj posted. I am nervous about stopping the abx. Ran out of them for 4 days and started to see fatigue and leg weakness return with a vengence. Can hardly stand legs so weak. Wonder if discontinuing abx for such a short time can cause symptoms to return/intensify or am I just having a bad/worsening of symptoms for the last week. Always questioning am I better, worse or have I just acclimated to feeling bad?? Small changes seem hard to gage for me.

I laughed about what Mickie said in another thread about us being willing gineau pigs. It's so true! Would take maybe 2 tylenol a year if I had to before I had lyme. Now different story.

I will let you know how the diflucan "experiment" is going. FYI this med only cost $35.00 total (I pd $15 w/ins) Very reasonable for those who are paying for meds themselves. I had to wait several days for ins auth for the rx (when the cost was so little?) and last month each rx (I had 2) was over $400 each. No authorization needed. Go figure.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Kim

Re: diflucan protocol for lyme treatment (not yeast per se)

well kim, sounds like the protocol... alternating the antibiotics and diflucan, 200mg. sorry you are not doing well... keep in communication with doc for sure...

earle,

did dr. m warn you to take acidolpholus two hours apart from antibiotics? may be hard to do if you're taking them 3x daily. need to be careful, depending on which abx you are on to spread out certain other supplments and foods as well.

you might want to ask question in new thread if you have them as i don't remember much more than i've shared, sorry. i am constantly have to re-research as i can't remember...

sure hope you get a good word on how to treat the ammonia. cj

Re: diflucan protocol for lyme treatment (not yeast per se)

well kim,

sounds like they have you on the protocol... alternating abx w/ 200mg dosages of diflucan. sorry you already feeling so bad... keep in good communication with doc... and keep us posted, ok? blessings, cj

earle,

i've always been advised to spread out all probiotics and abx 2hours apart... and some antibiotics have to be spread out the same with certain supplements and food as well... you might want to check into to this to make sure your abx are working at full dosage and not being countered.

hope to hear some good news from you on the ammonia situation... take care, cj
