Lyme and Menopause?

Hi all,

Still feeling good as far as the Lyme, but now I am beginning to think I am starting pre-menopause or is it called peri?

I missed my period last month (no, there's no way I could be pregnant, lol!), and I originally thought I missed it because of all my excitement about remortgaging my house. Well, now I am beginning to think different.

I get these really hot feelings (I don't know if they are flashes since I never experienced them before), then I get really cold. I never had these feelings during Lyme.

My sleeping habits have changed, I wake up in the middle of the night in a bad sweat, I've been getting really bad headaches, backaches (something I never got before, stiff neck).

How do I know if I am starting Menopause? Oh no! I am 49 years young, and I don't want to start menopause!

My treatment protocol for Lyme has not changed, so something is going on.

Now I have to try to differentiate the Lyme symptoms and the Menopause symptoms? That's not easy.

Have any ladies here went through Menopause? I don't know what to think!

Thanks,
Denise

Sorry to hear you're having more problems. Could be menopause related. I don't have any experience there, surgical menopause at 25. The symptoms also sound so much like Babesia/Lyme. I think it will be hard to separate the two.

I hope you feel better soon, keeping you in my prayers................Marsha

Re: Lyme and Menopause?

Thanks Marsha,

You are so sweet! All my bands from IgeneX were positive for Ehrlichiosis and all negative for Babesiosis, so I don't think Babs is a problem, at least I hope not!

I am of that age to start pre-menopause and after reading the symptoms (night sweats, headaches, backaches, etc.) I think I just may be starting it. I guess the best thing for me to do is to see a Gyno doctor. Could use the pap smear test anyway.

Doing very well with the Lyme though, so maybe my body is just doing what is natural. It's not that terrible, but a new experience for me as I always heard of women talk about "hot flashes" and I could never imagine one of those "flashes" before.

I am sleeping, just that I wake up during the night but I do go back to sleep. Today I don't have any pains in my back or neck which is good.

I guess like everything else, I will take this one day at a time.

Didn't know one could have surgical menopause, that's new to me, interesting!

Thanks!
Denise

Re: Lyme and Menopause?

Sounds like the beginning of menopause to me. Your are the right age to start with this. Menopause is what set my Lyme off (was managing it as fibro until then). Hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, waking up at night, hot and cold, all your sympoms. Since your Lyme is under control, I would not guess that is the culprit.

There are natual products out there that can help, could go the prescription route also. The really good news is that you have your Lyme under control so it doesn't go haywire along with all these new symptoms!!! Having done it the hard way, I really mean this!!

Anyway, if you have more questions I will try and answer what I can, just didn't know how much you have already researched. (I know you are good at researching!)

So glad you had a good time with mother/brother/wife. I was thinking of you a lot and hoping that everything was going well.

Jeanne

Re: Lyme and Menopause?

Hi Jeanne,

Thanks so much for putting this into perspective for me. It does make sense with my age and I knew one day I would start menopause, it wouldn't be normal if I didn't, right?

I didn't start researching yet about products, I would want to take natural products, not prescription stuff.

If you have any information about natural products, I would be very interested.

Thanks for thinking about my evening with my Mother. I was very nervous about it and finally relaxed once I saw my brother. It was like nothing bad ever happened between us. He truly has a heart of gold!

Hugs,
Denise
