Question Just curious.....

I'm having alot of weird symptoms. I've been researching them and so far have come up with several possibilities. One of which is Lyme Disease. Mostly I'm just preparing myself to ask the right questions when I go to the dr.

So, what I'm curios about is this: I read that antibiotics can actually cure L.D. Is this true? I saw that some of you have been suffering with this for years so that really doesn't seem like the answer. Until I read that I was under the impression L.D. was incurable.

Also, if it is possible then what antibiotics would work? I spent 2 straight mths. on anitbiotics for a sinus infection- would that not have taken care of it?

What test did you have to diagnose this?

Re: Just curious.....

Hello ImTheLucky1,

Welcome to the Lyme Board! Asking questions is very good about any disease as knowledge is power.

As far as antibiotics are concerned, different ones are used for different infections.

Lyme Disease is a multi-faceted disease and it has co-infections, such as:

Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Bartonella, and Mycoplasma (those are the ones we know of now). I suspect there are probably more co-infections that will be discovered in the near future.

Did you know that Lyme Disease is the 2nd fastest growing infectious disease in the U.S. after the AIDS Virus? That's a fact. It doesn't matter where you live, lyme is everywhere.

I suggest that before you even think about antibiotics, that you get tested first.

I strongly suggest getting your blood sent to IgeneX Labs in Palo Alto, CA (not Quest nor Labcorp as they are so inaccurate). If you want more details about Quest or Labcorp, just ask.

Can you tell us what your symptoms are? Did you ever have a rash (though only about 30% or less of lyme-infected people even get a rash).

On the top of this board this is a Sticky Thread that lists all the symptoms of Lyme.

I will say this: if you suspect you have lyme, the longer you wait, the worse it becomes and a person needs to start treatment immediately instead of ignoring it.

I hope that helps and I hope to hear from you soon,
Denise

Re: Just curious.....

These are the symptoms listed that I actually have and part of what lead me here:

Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
pelvic pain
Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back
Muscle pain or cramps
Twitching of the face or other muscles
Headache
Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain
Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains
Eyes/Vision: double, blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity
Ears/Hearing: buzzing, ringing, ear pain, sound sensitivity
lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance
Lightheadedness, wooziness
Tremor
Confusion, difficulty in thinking
Difficulty with concentration, reading
Forgetfulness, poor short term memory
Mood swings, irritability, depression
Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
(I don't have any of the "female" type symptoms but that could be b/c I don't have a menstrual cycle due to my birth control.)

I hadn't paid much attention to any of these problems before b/c I'm also diabetic and have hyperthyroidism (Hashimoto's thyroiditis). Then recently I started having seizures and so I started looking up my symptoms. I've also posted about this in the epilepsy board and the research board. Additionally I smell things that no one else does, have a "strobe light" kind of effect in my eyes and hallucinate. I've had hallucinations for years but recently they are more frequent and much more solid.

What it amounts to is this- I have so many things going on and so many possibilities of what is wrong that I'm a little nervous that I'll be misdiagnosed. With all of these symptoms I could have: hyponatremia (an ER visit after a seizure found low sodium), Addison's, CCM's, AVM's, Encephalitis, or Lyme Disease. (I know, I read too much). Before I go to the dr. I thought I would "explore" some of these options here- so I don't look like a complete moron when I actually ask to be tested for these things. I'm getting paranoid to the point of being a hypocondriac (sp?).

I truly appreciate any input- Thanks.

Re: Just curious.....

Hi again ImTheLucky1,

Glad to see you posting again. One can never read enough about illnesses.

My Dad was also a diabetic so I am familiar with diabetic symptoms.

What strikes me is the hallucinations and the seizures as many people who are infected with Lyme do have hallucinations and seizures besides the other feelings that you describe.

I forgot the name of the guy that played for a famous sports team (I never watch sports), anyway, he was found in the middle of the street in Florida hallucinating and to my knowledge, not only was he diagnosed with Lyme Disease, he is still being treated. I wish I could remember his name.

Many members on this site experience seizures from Lyme.

I really suggest that you get your blood sent to IgeneX Labs in Palo Alto, CA.

IgeneX has their own website and you can order the Test Kit yourself, but you will need a doctor to sign for the tests. At least it's a start even though no test is 100% accurate, but it's the best lab in the U.S.

You have nothing to lose by getting your blood tested to see if your body is creating antibodies to the Lyme Bacterias.

Let us know how you are doing.

I truly hope you feel better!
Denise

Re: Just curious.....

You know, I must say that I have posted in HealthBoards on different subjects and this thread is the best! You all are so nice! I really appreciate your help/ advice and kind words.

I do have a question, deejavu: Do you know if insurance will cover sending test to a specific lab? I guess I should just call and ask them, huh?
