Warmer weather and more ticks - maybe a connection? - Lyme Disease Message Board

Was wondering if anyone thinks there are more ticks, or at least more ticks that are effected.

And was wondering if this has anything to do with warmer weather. Our winters have been very mild. And there seem to be many more ticks around.
My wife had two on her just a few days ago.

Just something for thoughts.

Hi Ekim:

There has been a lot of stuff on the news here and in the paper about being careful outside because there are more ticks this year which could mean more lyme disease. We have had unusually mild winters and springs the past few years and have already hit the upper 90's a number of times. The Articles did equate this increase in ticks to the warmer weather. I am just happy to see lyme in the news...

Hi ekim. Warmer weather definitely affects the tick population.

Do you treat your yard for ticks? It can be a big help.

Hi Ticker,

No we don't treat our lawn or gardens with anything.

My wife and I try to live green, and would never spray my lawn for ticks unless it was 100% no other options.

We live on a lake and have turtles, frogs, geese, ducks, and so many other cool creatures so we are careful not to furtilize or spray chemicals.

Hi ekim. I can understand your feelings. We have a lot of animals in our yard also. When we first decided to treat the yard, I was nervous because I did not want to hurt any animals. We use granuales once a year (in the spring) right before a big rain. We use less than is recommended. We do not have ticks on our property and no animals have ever been hurt.
