My husband was diagnosed and treated for Lymes in the central nervous system 1.5 years ago. His symptoms indicated that he had had it for years. Since the intravenous antibiotics most symptoms have lessened by 90 percent except for the great stiffness throughout his body, that has not changed, somedays worse then other days. Could the stiffness really be an after affect from the Lymes? Does anyone else suffer with this? Could he suffer with it for the rest of his life? Anyone have any answers, opinions, experiences? thank you.
How long was your husband treated? Did he take oral antibiotics after the IV? It may be that he was not treated long enough or aggressively enough intially. It is my understanding that most Lyme doctors will treat until the person is symptom free plus at least two months longer.
Was he treated by a Lyme doctor? Was he tested for all the co-infections that ticks can transmit: Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma? This is important because many people who have Lyme are co-infected.
With proper treatment, your husband can get better. If you need a doctor recommendation for your area, let us know. Hang in there okay?
thank you for your respose, The specialist told my husband that he did not have any co-infections and that he could battle with the stiffness for a very long time, possible a life time. He said, that not all people are symptom free for ever.
I have been battling Lyme for about two years now. I know 2 or 3 people who have beaten this disease with no recurrence or remaining symptoms. I also know 2 or 3 who had relapses because they pushed too hard and didn't continue healthy life style after feeling better.
This is a tough question to answer.
Maybe your hubby can try treatment again, just to see if he gets a reaction? If he does, then you know he didn't kill all the bacteria the first time around.

This will go away in some time.
What does the doctor say?
