Just realized I have Lyme, Dr. no help, friends unbelieving???

I just two days ago looked up lyme disease, and I see that I have all the symptoms: night sweats, mental fog, joint pain, stiff jaw, back pain, etc. I have been wondering for months what has been wrong with me, and I have had extreme difficulty making decisions or making unwise decisions. I have found that I haven't been enjoying life like I used to and my life has been severely changed in that I do not find pleasure in the things I used to, such as listening to music, and my business has greatly suffered, also. I have been unable to relax or even sleep through the night. I started going to a doctor when I signed up for insurance January 15th, 2007. I told the doctor that my dogs had been diagnosed with lyme disease and that I would like to be tested. She refused to authorize the test and said that I would have joint pain if I had lyme. I have had around 4 bloodtests, and only yesterday did I get one for lyme. I asked her to prescribe antibiotics as a precautionary measure, since early treatment is so important to healing. She refused. I am in great pain and awoke today with night sweats and pain in my hands, neck, and back. Please advise me on what to do? Thanks and have a great day!

Re: Just realized I have Lyme, Dr. no help, friends unbelieving???

Hi DavinoPA, welcome to the board!

I am sorry you have been so sick. Your doctor is wrong. Not everyone who has Lyme has joint pain. It is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor. Many doctors do not understand Lyme and treat with outdated protocols. No test is completely reliable, and results can vary by lab.

Besides Lyme, ticks can transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. Many people who have Lyme are co-infected, and it may affect treatment choice and progress. It is important to be tested for these by a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA. Night sweats are one symptom of the co-infection Babesiosis.

There is an excellent Lyme doctor in Hermitage. Would you like is name? Is NJ closer for you?

It is also important to learn as much as possible. I recommend reading Dr. Joseph Burrascano's 2005 Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines For Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses. He is one of the top Lyme doctors in the country, and many Lyme doctors follow his protocols. You can read about the neuropsychiatric symptoms of Lyme disease in the Columbia University's Lyme Disease Research Studies. I also recommend the book "Everything You Need To Know About Lyme Disease (2nd edition)" by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner.

Hang in there okay? Good help is available.

Ticker is absolutely right. My son was 5 when we pulled the tick off him. The bite inflamed, swelled, and itched off and on for SEVEN YEARS. But because the bloodwork came back "negative", his pediatrician refused to treat him. He had chronic headaches and stomachaches for about 2 years before we finally found a Lyme doc to diagnose and treat him. He never had ANY joint pain until that 7th year into the infection.

Just dont give up...I had a positive test and still could not get treatment for 2 months. I am now being treated.

Symtoms vary and they grow the longer you go untreated. I hope you get treatment fast.

Just read up on Lyme yourself get educated and do what is best for you.

Good luck.

NJ is close to me. I thought I was going to die yesterday, horrible disorientation. I would appreciate if you could post the Dr. info!

Thanks

Dave
