Re: can lyme lead to Parkinson's disease ?

I feel that it can be misdiagnoised as having Parkinson's. I had the tremors, shaking, loss of use of arms and legs...with the "proper" treatment it went away...just takes along time...depending from person to person....

I think Lyme's Disease can mimic many Neurological diseases.
And since only 50 percent develop the rash when bitten
I think Neurologist could be seeing far too many Lyme disease
chronic sufferers.

I have no diagnosis yet.
Been trying to figure out why I tremor since
2004. Hasn't been ONE day since 2004 that I haven't
shook in my arms/hands/wrists and some times legs.

Like sooooo many of you here with diagnosis of Lyme's Disease
I too, have been told it's MS at first. In fact they were certain it
was MS without doing any tests at first. But slowly the MRI's came
in SHOWING NOTHING. 2 MRI's done the last with and witihout contrast
STILL NOTHING.

Now they think it's Parkinson's.
The neurologist tend to zero in on my tremors.
It's my most obvious symptom.

It's a good question and I often think perhaps Lyme's Disease
brings out the worse in ONE's OWN genetic soup if left
CHRONIC or untreated over the years.

Hi jenillumine - I'm sorry to hear about your health troubles.........

How do you know that what u have is lyme ? Did a blood test at a lab like Igenix
confirm it or are u still trying to determine exactly what it is ?

Re: can lyme lead to Parkinson's disease ?

I was misdiagnosed as having parkinson's ( as well as MS, ALS, dystonia, and many other things) It mimics a lot of other things. I don't think it "turns into" parkinson's. But since all of these diseases I mentined have unknown causes, maybe they are all caused by infection.

No diagnosis yet.
I have lived in epidemic area's.
Westren Blot thru Quest came back non-reactive.

Working on contacting our local LLMD
And figuring out what to do with my IgeneX
test kit.

Still trying to figure out whats the
matter with me. Trying to rule out Lyme's.

Re: can lyme lead to Parkinson's disease ?

Michael J Fox comes quickly to mind when I read the topic of this post. He was in fact infected with Lyme and then later diagnosed as having Parkinsons. Could this be a misdiagnosis of chronic Lyme, maybe other co infections....I'm sure.

Harrod Buhner has an excellent book out with a natural protocol for treating Lyme and co infections. While this treatment improved my health significantly, it did not irradicate all of the Lyme symptoms and coinfections...but, I never tested with an IGM response to anything until after a year on his protocol. It boosted my immune system enough to respond and test positive for four different strains of Lyme, Babesia and Ehrlichia.

Re: can lyme lead to Parkinson's disease ?

Hi itsmylife...........Michael J. Fox also came to my mind when I started this thread.........In your post you stated that he was diagnosed as having parkinson's but he actually had lyme.......

well since he is such a prominent person, how come he has not been able to receive treatment for lyme and why is he such a huge advocate for Parkinson's instead (not to say that that isn't a worthy cause ) .......

I'm curious about Fox's story....what does he really have ........?

Re: can lyme lead to Parkinson's disease ?

I'm sure he paid big dollars for the best doc available. I'm sure whatever criteria they use to diagnose with Parkinsons, Fox appeared to have. Most people think what docs tell them is fact and why should they question what a highly regarded doc tells them. I wouldn't. Until you find out that doctors really many of them know very little about tick borne illnesses and dismiss the possibility. I think the same goes for Montel Williams with his diagnosis of MS. I obviously don't know for sure, but I feel there is a very strong possibility.
