ana....

If you have lyme, can you have a positive ana test result? I just read that lyme and lupus can be similar in symptoms....with lupus can that show bands on your western blot?

Thanks,
J

Re: ana....

J, I had a postive ANA for 8 years, up until 3 months after I started my ABX's, now it is neg. And believe me my rheumi checked it often, so yes you can have a pos. ANA with Lyme, but the other Lupus tests will be neg. if you only have Lyme and not Lupus. As for bands showing up because of Lupus, the bands that count on the Western Blots are Lyme specific, they will not come up pos. for anyother reason other than exposure to BB. Sarah

Re: ana....

Yes, some people who have Lyme have a positive ANA. I have also.

Re: ana....

So let me get this straight...if it were lupus and not lyme these bands would not come up positive? Are these bands just specific for lyme or can they be something else?

**34 kda IND
**41 kda +

**83-93 kda IND

The reason why I am asking is because lupus is similar to lyme and I also read that lupus antibodies are similar to syphilis and syphilis bacteria is similar to lyme.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks,
J

Re: ana....

hey 3love,
It is confusing. I think the important thing is if you get better with treatment. I think there are things out there the docs. don't even know what it is. If I were you I would keep trying to find out for sure, but if the treatment helps you feel better that may be all the answers you get. I don't know if you'll ever get a concrete. One thing through this journey I've learned is how much the doctors don't know. Good luck and hang in there. mc

Re: ana....

Hi April. You know it's funny you ask this question because I just read an article on this very same thing. It stated that even some "healthy" women a high ana. So with this said, if you don't have any symptoms I would not worry if I were you. But you should still see your doctor if you want to further put your mind at ease.

Try not to worry,
J
