Preventing A Spinal Tap Headache

I just wanted to pass this information along to those who may not know about it. This really works in preventing a terrible headache that can last for several days after a spinal tap.

After the procedure is done lay flat on your back for a minimum of 6 hours. DO NOT even lift your head a new inches or put a pillow under it. After the 6 hours pass you can do what you want.

I've had 6 spinal taps done and not once did I have a headache. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised.

How do you do that? Both times I had mine I was tossed out of the office/hospital much sooner than 6 hours.

Hi kimmet. Do you have Lyme? Did you have the spinal taps done for Lyme testing?

I had three done as an inpatient so no problem, but I and a really, really
difficult time with a doctor at The Cleveland Clinic. We even had a heated discussion about it.

At one point I said "you must enjoy inflicting additional pain on a person that isn't necessary at all". I'll never know if those words changed his mind but he gave me the OK to stay.

After 25 doctors, blood tests, brain scans and 1 spinal the diagnoses was
Lyme and that it had passed the blood/brain barrier

The other 5 spinals where by doctors who were positive I had MS.

Hi kismet. I am sorry you went through so much to get diagnosed.

What meds are you taking? Are you seeing a Lyme doctor? Were you tested for all the co-infections?

I hope your treatment is going well!

Re: Preventing A Spinal Tap Headache

Ticker: Thank you for your concern. I had Lyme 22 years ago when it was a new disease, doctors where just learning about it and believed it was just isolated to the northeast. At that time I had 5 - 2 week courses of IV treatments plus months of oral antibiotics. the name I can't remember.

Today, I don't have to see a doctor.
