Lightbulb How Long Were You Sick Before Your Diagnosis?

I have been really sick since 1995 ~ No one has properly diagnosed me with much of anything but the Integrative Doc I see has treated me for EBV with antivirals (which didn't do much for my symptoms but did lower my titers) and he is also treating me for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis but not sure I feel much better under treatment.

I just discovered a POSITIVE Lyme test that was done in March 2006 that no one told me about.

So I am going on 12 years now of being very sick. I toughed out 9 years of feeling this way but the last 3 have been so bad I had to quit working and basically am house bound. Thank goodness for a caring and understanding husband because I don't know how much more of this I can take (or how much he can take).

Just wondering how long some of you went before you got the proper diagnosis of Lyme Disease?

Re: How Long Were You Sick Before Your Diagnosis?

Hello Pollygirl; You bring up an interesting question. I had been sick 4 years before I had my Igenex test done on my own incentive; previous western bolt results were only given as "negative" now I would like to go back and find out what the actual band results were but when the HMO doctors look at my chart they say there is no additional information. Does anyone else agree that that's a pile of poo & someone has the info & I have a right to see it?

From what I gather, Quest does not use the (+) and (-) like Ingenx uses. My Quest WB said Nonreactive, however, the ELISA test was positive and high. Go figure.

I am hopefully going to see a new LLMD soon.

Re: How Long Were You Sick Before Your Diagnosis?

Hi PollyGirl.

I like your name. A good friend of mine at college was named Polly so seeing your name always reminds me of happier times.

From my investigation through my swiss-cheese memory, here is a summary of my Lyme illness:
- Tick bites in spring of 2002
- Winter/spring 2004 my symptoms began to affect my life
- July 2004 my symptoms came on full force
- Diagnosed via CDC positive test in January 2005 and began treatment

So, I was sick as a dog and undiagnosed for about a year.

I am still under treatment and s-l-o-wl-y getting better.

There are many here who were so very sick for years, much longer than I, before they were diagnosed. How sad that in this day an age, a bacterial infection is so diffilcult to diagnose and treat.

12 years is a long time for you to have been ill. Try to hang in there.

Peace and health to you,
Mickie

Re: How Long Were You Sick Before Your Diagnosis?

Thanks for the replies............I finally found a LLMD in my area that I will see in 5 weeks. His office is sending out a packet for me and I will have to have a battery of tests done prior to the appt.

I can hardly wait.

One thing that really concerns me is that I got sick 12 years ago and it lasted well over a year. Then I would go in and out of remission. I was still sorta active with running and jogging but many times I just didn't have the energy.

I wasn't having too many neurological symptoms until last year. I think it has gotten progressively worse because my brain is slowing down.

I pray this can be reversed. It scares the daylights out of me.
