I have Sjogren's Syndrome and lupus for 20 years. About 6 months ago I became very ill, nothing like I ever experienced before..started with extreme vertigo, nerve pain all over, anxiety, joint pain. They werent sure what was going on so they ran a LYME test via Igenex and it came back positive IGG on several bands. I also had another doc do a LYME test with another lab and it came back negative. My sjogrens antibodies are the highest I ever had in my life..Ny neuro said that the Lyme antibodies can resemble the autoimmune antibodies and that my sjogrens must be flaring because it can have all the same symptoms as lyme? Im also going through surgical menopause (Yeah, Im a mess)
does anyone have any idea? its such a big thing because the treatments are soooo different.
Hi Rachelle. Are you seeing a Lyme doctor? What does he/she say?
I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I do know that some people who have Lyme have or have had a positive ANA. Lyme disease is known as the great imitator. Some people who have it were first diagnosed with other diseases. I believe this includes RA. When Lyme was first named back in the 1970s, many children in one area were getting arthritic symptoms.
Are you currently on antibiotics? Were you tested for all the co-infections?
I went to two lyme docs..one lab says I have it, the other does not. Both use different labs. Im delaying the anti's for now until I can figure out what is really going on if I can. I have terrible systemic yeast it often gets into my esophagus so I have to be very careful. Many antifungals dont even work on me anymore. This has been lifelong issue.
I also know that my sjogrens is flaring up a storm, prob from my hysterectomy and hormone issues. My neuro is very knowledgeable about lymes, and says prob dont have it and its my autoimmune going nuts-but, I have never felt so sick in my entire life so this is just scary. Im going to a 3rd doctor to get his opinion...the other co-infections are clear, except for the HHV-6 and EBV are very high, but that seems to be the case for most everyone? I did find some articles on the internet that did say Lyme testing can produce false positive with those with autoimmune problems so.....who really knows or who can help? eveytime I go to a different doc, seems I have something else. Just wondered if anyone else had to deal with the lyme & autoimmune issues..thanks Ticker
for your time.
