I had a PCR and ELISA test for Babesia Microti from Medical Diagnostic Labs in NJ. The PCR was negative. The Elisa was .8 (>0.9 is equivocal) so technically this was a negative result.....but my DR thinks that based on my symptoms and the existence of ANY Babesia specific antibodies that its a good guess that's what I have......
Its interesting that you can have a small amount of Babesia antibodies, and the result is negative. Why would you have those antibodies if you didn't have it? His logic is also that when your immune system is supressed, your body may not be able to produce enough antibodies...hence the low count.
