Lyme Disease in the Caribbean? Please help...
I've been trying to find answers to my health problems for over 10 years now. I was bitten by something (never saw what it was) in Jamaica. All I can say about that is that it was a very painful bite and burned for hours afterward. I had to keep ice on it for the rest of the day. Shortly thereafter I developed a red rash that covered the top of my foot. My husband & I clearly remember saying that it must be from the bite because the center was clear. I saw a doctor there in Jamaica and she said she had never seen anything l like it, but gave me a short course of antibiotics to take. If I remember correctly, it was one week.
Within 2 or 3 months of that bite I got terribly sick with a brutal back ache. That was the beginning of my symptoms, which have included everything from fatigue, lightheadedness, dizziness, joint/muscle pain, numbness/tingling, to tinnitus, blurry vision, chest pain and "serious" palpitations and a plethora of other symptoms that are on typical lyme disease checklists. I've had many periods where my symptoms eased up for a while, but for the past 2 years I've been chronic. I haven't been able to work for a few years now.
From my research, there's practically no incidence of lyme in Jamaica. We were around many American friends at the time though... can ticks travel easily?
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year, but from my recent research, I really feel as though it could be Lyme Disease. Or something else that was transmitted by that bite, whatever it was. I've kicked myself many times for not taking a picture of the rash.
If any of you know of any websites where I might look for more info, please let me know. In view of my recent chest pains I'm worried whatever it is could be starting to affect my heart. No, I'm not being paranoid. Just careful.
p.s. I've tested negative on 2 lyme tests. But from what I've read, you can test negative and still have it.
