I'm new to the board so this may have been answered before. I have been having a lot of heart palpitations for the past 8 months. It has gotten worse over the past 2 weeks so I went to the hospital this morning. They put me on a heart monitor for 3 hours and told me that I was fine and that I could go home. Does anyone else have the heart problems and if so, what has your doctor said about them? I didn't worry as much before but since they are getting worse and lasting longer I would like to know what's going on. Thanks!
sounds like me. They hook you up then tell you "nothing's wrong". Well something's wrong. I have unusual shortness of breath also. Good luck. I'm sure others can add more info. take care, mc
I've been fighting with this for months. I found that I had lyme over a year ago. During that time I went 6 different times to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack. Each time I was fine, found nothing wrong and sent me home. I did have a stress test done also and that came out fine.
After being on different antibiotics for 5 months it did improve a little but now I've been switched to doxy and ceftin with a midline. My symptoms have gotten worse. Especially when I wake up in the morning. If feel like someone turns a key and my heart starts up. I can feel the beating and it will go away after awhile but makes me lighthheard. Not if its because of the anxiety or whatever. My left rib cage under my arm is alway sore and that's were I feel the beats the most. I'd rid my body of most of the lyme symptoms. If I got rid of this I think I'd be through with the lyme.
I'm not sure if its a side affect of the medicine, herxing or whatever. Anybody ever seen this.
But to answer your questions I think a lot of us have the same symptoms you do.
Ive had them on and off for about 18mos now. They are scary and feel like an adrenaline rush. I did find out my potassium was extremly low and that does cause palps along with cramps. You may want to have this checked out as it is very dangerous.
My husband was finally diagnosed with lyme disease last Monday. We now know that this is what he has been fighting since 1972. He had all the classic symptoms after camping but was treated for "ringworm" and a bad case of the flu. He had a lot of heart attack type symptoms and was told everything was fine for a long time. His heart started beating very slowly and he had to get a pacemaker about 4 years ago. The LLMD mentioned that the lyme is in the heart. I hope that all of you can kill the lyme before it does more damage.
thanks for all the info. it seems as if no one really has really gotten an actual diagnosis of what is going on. my llmd called back and told me to decrease my thyroid medication and if that hasn't helped in a week to see a cardiologist. we'll see how that goes, i'm not all that optomistic
I go through phases where I'll get a lot of heart palpitations. Sometimes my heart stops beating for a couple beats and then it feels like an explosion in my chest when it starts up again. When that happens (thankfully, not very often) I immediately feel very faint, to the point of seeing everything go grey and losing my hearing for several seconds. When my symptoms started over 10 years ago one of the specialists I saw detected a slight heart murmur. An echocardiogram showed up a small mitral valve prolapse. Any doctor I've mentioned these palpitations to since just sort of shrugged it off, the last one saying that as long as the palps don't go on for an hour at a time, it's nothing to worry about. But sometimes that heart attack feeling really scares me.
ALyme05...I have had these palpitations too. I had to wear a holter monitor and it showed "frequent PAC's" I was told not to worry about it. Then I found out I had Lyme. Yes Lyme causes palpitations. In fact, I just started IV Rocephin and I now have Tachycardia. The Doc believes it is from a herx reaction. So Lyme and heart symptoms go together it seems. It's curious that you have hypothyroidism because i do too. But I never had problems with the synthroid until I got lyme. Now it makes me feel worse when I take it. I actually feel better with a higher tsh and less synthroid than I did pre-lyme with lower tsh. Lyme also screws up the endocrine system. I hate this disease. Makes me want to be a deer hunter LOL

Kdmari, What you feel is not your heart stopping. What happens is that you have an early beat, followed by a pause, and then a strong beat. You notice the strong beat as a BOOM! The pause is the heart beat resetting, and then the strong beat as a compensator after the pause. These are called PVC's or PAC's (premature ventricular or atrial contractions) depending on the origin. Most often they are scary but nothing to worry about. Usually people with a naturally slow heart rate will feel them more than people with a faster heart rate. Look it up, learn about it and try not to stress about it because that will just make it worse. Feel better soon.
kdmari, that's exactly how mine feels. does your cause you to have headaches after it happens? i have been having severe headaches since this started happening more regularly and no matter what i take the pain will not go away. i usually have a high heart rate so the doctors in the past have told me that i shouldn't be able to feel it but i can feel it everytime. i asked at the hospital for an echocrdiogram but the dr didn't feel that it was necessary. i told him that it felt like a vavle problem rather than an electrical impluse problem but he said that it would be impossible for me to feel a valve problem. i'm willing to bet that he's never had it happen to him.
Rodney99, i agree about being a deer hunter! i had never had thyroid problems until i got sick from the lymes so i'm not real sure what i'm dealing with. to me it all just runs together.
I too have had heart palpitations for the last couple of months. Sometimes my heart will speed up, sometimes it will feel like it's skipping beats and then I'll feel a big thud and sometimes it feels like a flutter. When it happens I feel faint, and get really shaky. I've been to the ER and had EKG's, blood tests, urine tests, CT scans, an Echo, etc. Everything has come back normal. The only explanation I get from the doctor's is that it's just heart palpitations and everyone has them. I have been very sick for about 6 months and was tested for MS, Lyme, West Nile, Mono, Thyroid function, etc. My lyme was negative however every time I talk to someone who has/had lymes disease or read about it I can relate to almost every symptom. I was diagnosed with mono but everyone I know who has had it feels better after a few weeks or so and doesn't have nearly any of the symptoms I have other than fatigue. I have lost weight and still after six months can't gain any back. Maybe I should be tested for Lyme again? Anyways, to answer your question... if it is just palpitations then supposedly it isn't something to worry about. I was told that hopefully it would just eventually go away. I do feel better about it now that I've had so many tests done to rule out all the scary stuff though.
ALyme05, no I don't get headaches when I get palpitations. No connection there with me. But when my symptoms first started I had a headache pretty much constantly for 3 years. Then one day it stopped and since then headaches haven't really been an issue. My symptoms keep changing and rotating... just to keep me wondering!
