Anyone being treated by infectious doctors instead of LLMD?

Every time I get on here and start reading posts I start thinking, actually thinking and doubting a lot of things. I want to get better. I know that it takes times but sometimes I am not sure about the treatment I am getting. I pretty much had to demand to be changed on my meds because I felt the others were not working.

I have also spoke to others being treated by the same LLMD as myself and we were pretty much told the same things from the beginning of treatment until this point. Not sure if I should check into being seen by someone else. When I went to see the neurologist the yesterday he asked if I was seeing an infectious doctor for treatment. Would one of them be as good? One positive side is my insurance would definately cover that. I wonder if I should still set up an appt while I am being seen by my current LLMD just to see the difference and what is available?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi fernee. What meds and doses are you taking? Have you been tested for all the co-infections? Which doctor are you seeing (you can use initials)?

Often infectious disease doctors are the worst to see for Lyme unless they speacialize in it. The majority of them do not believe chronic Lyme disease exists and they believe two to four weeks of treatment is sufficient.

If you feel you should get another opinion, you should. I would recommend seeing a Lyme doctor though and not an infectious disease doctor.

The only infectious disease doc I saw basically gave me the bum rush right out the door. Totally useless. I wouldn't let him work on a sick mouse, let alone a human.

Seriously closed-minded, egotistical, and unwilling to learn more about sums it up.

I am currently on levaquin and doxy again. Was on doxy, then doxy (always 100mg twice a day), zithro and rifampin combo, then zithro, bactrim combo and now this. Suppose to start IV next month if not better. Seeing Dr. S in Singleton.

I just found one and actually spoke to the Dr., She said that with the amount of abx I have been on and the time, I need to be on the IV now and not waiting. I told her I know I have had it for at least 2 -2/12 years now, maybe longer but there was a bite then, and she said chronic lyme so that did reassure me.

At least I feel like I am moving forward by getting this second opionon.

I am seeing an infectious disease doc who is awesome. He has lots of Lyme patients and is very knowledgable. I am lucky, as he accepts my insurance. I am currently on IV rocephin and before that Doxy. Maybe you will have to find the right ID doc. I did.
Good Luck
