I am confused-meds or getting worse? - Lyme Disease Message Board

I started my Doxy Monday night (300 day) so yesterday was my first full day. Adding my other meds of zithro and flag next week.

Last night I had SO much pain. It was like my toothache type pains all over, and I was getting shooting pains. Today my thumbs have been quick twitching and I got an odd shooting pain in my gum. Now Monday before I took the meds I was getting some pretty bad hand pains. I am scared I am confused and nervous, am I getting worse or could the meds already be effecting me? How do I know?!

I am so nervous since I only tested pos on31 and IND on 34 and 41, what if its NOT lyme and its some other thing or disease getting worse? Has anyone else had this fear who has not met two positives etc?

You are suffering from the Jarisch-Herxheimer effect, where your symptoms are amplified as the borellia die off, and this is an excellent confirmation of infection! Hang in there, this will pass in a few weeks.

I also started on Doxy and within the week I developed painful bumps on face/chin area and bumps on neck/under ear that resembled mumps. I did feel worse with severe headaches and increased pain on fingers. My doctor did change meds to Amoxicillin. He said I was probably having an allergic reaction, I did not know what a herx was though.
