Hello -
I'm female, 24, and in England. I've suffered from what seems to be Lyme Disease for over a decade, and many digestive problems have resulted. Over the last year, an increase in these (sluggish digestion, constipation, nausea, food intolerance) has led me to undertake periodic fasts (once or twice a month) drinking only water and a couple of ounces of juice for between 2 and 5 days. For the first 8 months or so, my symptoms seemed to level off rather than becoming worse. But lately, I've begun experiencing a constant, severe heartburn type pain (accompanied by occasional stabbing pains throughout my upper body) which lasts for at least 24 hours after eating, and restarts again as soon as I eat anything else. (It doesn't matter _what_ I eat, or what vitamins I take.) I only drink caffeinated things about once a week, and have never had problems with caffeine in the past. The one medicine I've been taking for years is the analgesic 'anadin', the normal dose about 5 times per week. I've never had any problems with that in the past either, and have not increased my dosage. Could this new pain be related to my fasting, or is it just another symptom of my continuing digestive complaints? I'm at a loss - I've made an appointment with my GP but it will be several days before can see him. In the meantime, I'm wracked with worry and would appreciate any help I can get...
