Question can you get lyme again?

My son who is 18 now had lyme back at least 5 years ago maybe more..time flies!
he got the classic bullseye rash and was seen at the lyme center at stonybrook hosp. he was treated with antibiotics and seemed fine.
He is now experienceing alot of the symptoms. My question is, is it possible for him to have it again? he went to the dr. the other day and he ran a blood test. so I guess we will see. I would love to hear what you guys think!
thanks for your help

Hi Bee, I am sorry your son is sick. It is possible your son was re-infected, and it is also possible that he was not treated long enough initially. How long was he sick before getting diagnosed before? How long was he on treatment? Make sure he is tested for the co-infections that ticks can transmit--Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE) and Bartonella.

~Bee- Hey, imagine meeting you here! I was just looking at the other boards besides back and saw Lyme and since I've had Lyme twice (does that answer your question?) I thought I see what was on here... Anyway, I had Lyme 7 years ago, did a month of IV antibiotics, and then 2 years ago I was so run down, couldnt shake a cold for 3 mos on and off, so I went to the Dr. Asked her to run my Lyme titer which she did. She was very surpised to find out it was elevated. I asked her if it was a new case or a the old one rearing its ugly head? She said she didn't know. This time though she gave me a Z-pack (strong oral antibiotic) which I took for 2 weeks and then my Lyme titer was normal. So, don't know if this helps but... How old is your son?

1/19/04 I am 7 mos post op. I still have the same foot pain as before surgery. Doc agrees it is probably permanent nerve damage. Started neurontin this week. Still glad I had the surgery though!

You know, when you're 18 y.o. you dont realize that stuff can affect the rest of your life. He's being a typical kid... I think I'd call the doctor too if I were you. Let me know what's up. Talk to you soon
