Side Effects Of Doxycycline - Lyme Disease Message Board

I am on my almost sixth week of doxycycline for presumed lyme disease and seeing an infectious disease person. I have experienced many symptoms, but have started to think they are serious side effects of the medication. My teeth and gums hurt, in fact my teeth felt like they were going to fall out. I have short term memory problems, palpitations, difficulity concentrating, vertigo and a bunch of other neurological things, like fingers and toes that fall asleep. Is anyone else out there experiencing these things? Is it the disease or the medication? During the day I am in a brain fog, then in the evening I feel much better. Any replies are welcome.

I JUST STARTED TO TAKE DOXYCYCLINE ON FRIDAY BUT I HAVE ALL THE SYMPTOMS YOU DESCRIBE AND MORE. I THINK THATS JUST FROM LYME DISEASE I'VE BEEN LOOKING UP THE SYMPTOMS AND THERE IS MORE THAT I THOUGHT AND I HAVE ALMOST ALL OF THEM AND I AM IN THE SECONDARY PHASE. I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY TEETH OR GUMS YET

DTemple teeth sensitivity was one of my worst symptoms when I started getting treated. Prior to this, I had never had sensitive teeth. To me your symptoms sound like Lyme and possibly the co-infection Babesiosis. You may be herxing because the Doxy is working. Have you been tested for the co-infections?

What dose of Doxy are you taking?

I would have responded sooner, but I am still having computer problems.

My son was on doxey and what you decribe is the herxing which means the med is working. He had all of that. Were you tested for it at all?

I just went to my third doctor who is a rheumatologist and on the list for the American Lyme Foundation for doctors who are lyme literate in CT. He told me that my symptoms do not sound like lyme disease (I have numb toes on my right foot and the muscle above my right knee is tender), and based upon my blood tests, he said that he would have to say that I did not have lyme disease. It is so frustrating to have all of your symptoms match up with everything on this board and then three doctors who look at you like you are crazy in the head. At least I did have early treatment, five weeks of doxycycline total and I am 98% better. But why don't these doctors get it?
