TEST RESULTS NEGATIVE - Lyme Disease Message Board

I have been reading this board for over a month, was treated for lyme disease with doxycycline for five weeks and have had most of the symptoms you all describe for lyme disease on these boards. An infectious disease doctor retested my blood for me (at the end of treatment) - four tests costing over $600.00. The Western blot test only showed one positive band, the rest were all negative and negative for co-infections. According to her, my lyme test is considered negative. I find this amazing! She said I MAY have had lyme that was treated very early, or some other unknown virus, and/or an unusual reaction to the medication. Now I feel like a hypochondriac, even though I was truly very sick for two months and I am not perfect still.

DTemple, no Lyme test is completely reliable and having been on antibiotics can skew the results. A knowledgable Lyme doctor will not depend solely on test results. You are still having symptoms, you should still be treated.

You are not a hypochondriac. Please get evaluated by a knowledgeable doctor.

What kind of tests did you have? Just be careful my child had lyme was treated for 6wks retested & it came out it was gone. Not knowing at that time we moved & for 10yrs he was so sick & nobody found it. I never thought of the lyme since they sd the test was ok. Well anyway he got so bad & was in the hospital I ck'd lyme symptoms & he had almost all of them. We then sent to Igenix lab in Ca & sure enough came back lyme. Ten yrs this was doing a job on him because of the neg test so be careful!
