Post DTemple

I posted this under a different thread but thought you might not see it:

DTemple, 200 mg of Doxy per day is not strong enough for Lyme. I believe the recommended dose is 300-600 mg daily.

From what I understand, six weeks treatment (at proper dosage) is the minimum treatment time for an infection caught within two weeks of the tick bite. A longer infection needs longer treatment.

Often, infectious disease doctors are not the best to see regarding Lyme. Were you tested for the co-infections that ticks can transmit? There is an excellent Lyme doctor in Ridgefield, CT.

Ticker, thanks for the advice, I did not see your posting until today. I went to a very highly regarded infectious disease person in Hartford (see my other postings, one dated today). I should have seen a lyme literate doctor. For now I am feeling somewhat better, so I am not in any hurry to take any more medications or see more doctors. I am going to wait and see what happens. My tests came back negative even though I had every single one of the symptoms everyone describes on this board. Do you think there could be some other strain of lyme out there that is not yet detectable on the lyme test?

DTemple I would have responded sooner but I am still having computer problems.

You are right, it is very important to see a Lyme knowledgeable doctor. Often, infectious disease doctors are not the best to see regarding Lyme Disease. I highly suggest that you get evaluated by a Lyme doctor and be tested for all of the co-infections. I would not recommend waiting because untreated or undertreated Lyme can be very, very serious. The sooner proper treatment begins, the better.

No Lyme test is completely reliable. From what I understand, the test that most doctors will run first, the ELISA or titer, is the the least reliable of all. A knowledgable doctor will consider your entire history and will be able to run more extensive testing. There is an excellent Lyme doctor in Ridgefield.

Ticker, Thanks for your help and suggestions. I took myself off Doxycycline in week FIVE because it was causing alot of problems for me: light sensitivity, brain fog, vertigo, nausea, memory loss, no energy. I do seem to over-react to some medications - everyone is different in how they metabolize medications. Within three days of stopping the medication I felt normal again - it was like a miracle. What scared me the most was the brain fog and memory loss and I couldn't drive some days because of the vertigo. I am feeling 100 times better than before, but still not perfect - my teeth are extremely sensitive and I am still slightly off in the memory department. Despite all the negative blood tests, I still feel I did have lyme disease. They need to come up with a better blood test screening. Thanks again - I hope I remain in "getting better" mode, but if I don't I will see the lyme doctor in Ridgefield.

Ticker, I was tested for the co-infections because I insisted on it and because I educated myself on this board. Four blood tests later and over $600.00 in blood testing just for lyme disease later - everything was considered negative. I have copies of my test results.
