Dallas, TX POA/Medical POA urgently Looking for Lyme Literate doctor

Summary: POA/Medical POA urgently Looking for Lyme Literate doctor in or fairly near Dallas, TX;

Details: My brother left home & has been on his own for many years and just returned to us very sick. His medical history file shows he was in the Hospital in June & July 2007 on life support due to possible complications from a tick bite & possibly Lyme Disease. After he was stablized I understand he refused the follow-up treatment medications and self-released himself from the hospital. From then on his health worsened and he was unable to maintain his surrounding and lived in squalor in an unclean & rural environment & has only been in to see the doctor when things were way out of control.

He was pretty healthy before that but since this his health has been very bad. He now on SSI/SSDI & Medicare/Medicaid & has been in/out of treatment for multiple conditions. He has been from doctor to doctor and feels he is being ignored & written off. He has returned home and asked me (his brother) to be both his Medical & Statutory Power of Attorney.

A review of his medical history shows the following:

- 2007/06-07: Hospitalization from tick bite & infectious complications.

- 2007/10: Follow-ups from Tick bite & diagnosis of diagnosis of CMV of CNS;

- 2008/02: Diagnosis of CNS Menigitus;

- 2008/03: Diagnosis of Cervical Issues, possible Spinal Stenosis;

- 2009/02: Diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori; Refers to the 2007/07 issues as Acute Retroviral Syndrome;

- 2009/06: References to Accute Irritable Bowel Syndrom;

- 2010/09: Hospitalization for presumtively Cellulitus;

- 2010/09: Also suspected MRSA & references to Pediculosis;

- 2010/09: Possible Hysterical Parasitosis;

At this point I am unsure whether he has complications from refusing treatment from Lyme Disease &/or whether he has Delusionary Parasitosis, &/or mental issues from being ignored and living an unhealthy lifesytle (or all the above). I don't want to write off all of this as psychosis & possibly ignore some real phyical problems.

I/we would like to get an unbiased opinion & determine the best path forward.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dallas, TX POA/Medical POA urgently Looking for Lyme Literate doctor

Hi Nodoze, so sorry for what your brother is going through. I think it is just awesome that you are trying to help him out. Being here and reading ALOT about Lyme and weeding through the crap about it is good for the both of you.

Do you know that there are 300 to 400 different strains of Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria (Lyme Disease), around the world. It is a cousin to Syphilis. But from what I have read it is genetically stronger than Syphilis. So it is VERY hard to get it under control.
Lyme is a very political disease. Some claim that it was being studied at Plum Island and used for germ warfare. You can read the book Lab 257 which will just blow your socks off. And or read up on Plum Island.

Now, looking at what you wrote it looks like he became ill in 2007 with diseases from ticks.
How long was he treated for this? I am assuming it wasn't for long.

I myself went years and years being misdiagnoised. And I was losing the use of my legs and arms. When I finally found a doctor that helped me, I had in home health nurses and a in home counselor. They put it in my file NOT to send me down the hill to the mental institution for my craziness.
Don't doubt that he is having major mental issues. This stuff is just horrible. I have read on the boards of many people going through this.

On the boards we can not share Dr's names. There are not many Lyme Literate Medical Doctors, (LLMD), specialist. And majority of them are fighting to keep their licenses because of long term antibiotic use.
Also at the top of the board you will see a thread that the admin have written on how we can share LLMD's names.
Also you might try from where you are sitting looking for a Lyme Support group in your county, city or near by. There ususally is a contact person on those and possibly they can give you a name.

Just to let you know. There is NO magic pill that will help him. It takes along time to get this stuff into remission. (If at all). There are lots of supplements that he needs to be on to help the immune system get back up.
I am on year 10 of the proper treatment of it. And am still testing positive for lyme. I can walk and talk and have good days.

Also the CMV, cytomeglovirus is kind of common for many of us to have. As is EBV, (Epstein Barr Virus). I have tested positive for both. Some doctors tell you to live with them. That they don't cause you any hard.
Don't believe it. Both of the viruses cause, M.S., heart problems, mental problems, on and on. Read up on them the more you learn about all of this the better off you will be.

Going to a run of the mill G.P. OR and infectious diesease doctor will not help. They will pooh the diagnoises or give low dose antibiotics for a short term.
With the viruses he needs antivirals.

I am not sure if this has helped you at all. But the main thing is to do alot of reading so you have knowledge on what to believe and what not to believe when you take him to doctors.
At this point sounds like he needs a doctor that will think outside of the box.

Also doing alot of detoxing the body helps. I finally got a infared sauna a few years back. it helps to sweat toxins out.
Also doing a 30 minute soaking of Epsom Salts and Hydrogen Peroxide is good also. The Salts pull toxins out and the H.P. helps put oxygen back into the body.

You may have to help him with alot of things for a while if he is not thinking clearly.
My family backed off, and so did my friends. He is lucky to have you.

Jodie

Re: Dallas, TX POA/Medical POA urgently Looking for Lyme Literate doctor

By the way the Delusionary Parasitosis is a real thing. Many of us have creepy crawlers under the skin. It could be caused from the lyme bacteria. It could also be caused from Morgellons. You definatley need to read up on Morgellons.

Nodoze,

Jodie gave you some good advice.

In regard to the mental symptoms that say your brother is experiencing, these are very real and happen when the infection hits the CNS. With Lyme, ammonia can build up in the brain and lead to panic attacks, anxiety, Lyme Rage, confusion and a host of other emotional/mental symptoms. I have found this product works very well!

K-Mag Kg from Source Naturals.

This is an alpha-ketoglutarate amino acid and can be found in health and vitamin stores very inexpensively. I always keep it on hand.

All the best to you and your brother,

Jen

I am sorry to hear about your brother. I am also afflicted with this strange & unexplained condition. Here is the link to Mesh databank. They have classified the disease/syndrome as ting.
It is practically impossible to find a health pro that will treat or even recognize this as a disease so I just wish you the best of luck my friend.

THANKS !!! Quite a bit of info... Will try summarize answers &/or action plan as follows:

1: Will try to find the book on Audio.. If anyone has a link for Lab 257 &/or Plum Island on audio on amazon or something please post it as I am buried right now (4 little kids, wife, run a company, take care of my mom, and now my brother)...

2: I believe he was found unconsis and rushed to the Hospital. He woke up and was surprised to be in the hospital on life support and as soon as he was able he pulled out his IVs & walked out of there refusing any/all further treatment... Up till then he was a strong and self-reliant individual (black-belt who could "take care of himself") and didn't listen to anyone... He left the family at 17-18 and really didn't come back until recently when he was really in need... Since then he has had poor follow-through & only going to emergency room or doctors appointments when he utterly had to... I am helping him get consistent on taking meds and making every appointment...

3: I think I read that thread[/B]

4: We are in Dallas, Texas (I have been here since 1996 & I moved my brother here to be his Medical & Statutory POA 2 weeks ago). Any "Lyme Support Groups" in Dallas or anywhere in Texas or surrounding states even? How do I get the contact info for a Dallas area or nearby Lyme Support Group?

5: Will look into suppliments (some good posts from others on the forum (thanks!)); Good to know the CMV is common as I was getting concerned with all of the differnet diagnoses... Will need to understand anti-virals...

6: Helpful but unfortunately not actionable... I have already read at least serveral hundred pages from all over the web & medical journals on every diagnosis & acronym which led me to here. I do not have the time to be a true expert on everything and run my business and take care of my mom, wife and 4 little kids, & now brother... At this point we really need a doctor who is open and willing to really look into this & think out of the box (that ideally takes medicare/medicaid)...

7: Will try some detoxing... Can you do both the salts & H2O2 at the same time or do they need to be seperate baths? If recommended seperate, do you do 30 mins each (1 hour total)? Any idea of recommended frequency of these baths (X times per week or month)?

8: ... He has already been abandoned by all friends & "blood" family... My dad married his mom & adopted him when he was 3 and I was 5 so we have always been brothers... Unfortunately his mom divorced my dad and told him & my other step/adopted siblings that they were adopted when he was 18... In his confusion (he didn't know he was adopted) and the crisis he left with his mom & blood siblings and now they have abandoned him... Very sad... Unfortunately I was an officer in the military at the time and wasn't there... Legally he is still my dad's adopted son and we still love/care for him hence why he is now in Dallas... In the end, if he could, I believe he would do it for me... Regardless, it is the right thing to do...

Re: Dallas, TX POA/Medical POA urgently Looking for Lyme Literate doctor

Sorry if i overwhelmed you with info.

with the Epsom Salt and Hydrogen Peroxide baths you use 2 cups of E.S. with 64 ounces of Hydrogen Peroxide. Mix together....

When I mentioned looking for a support group from where you are sitting. You want to look to see where they are in your state. Or you can see if there are any in the county you live in.

I will put you and your brother and family in my prayer's.

Jodie
