I too was diagnosed with IBS. I too had arthritis like pain. I also had very high IgE levels and broke out with hives regularly. It turned out my IBS and pain was caused by a parasite called Blastocystis SP. Its very hard to find in a stool tests and can take up to 5 consecutive stool tests to find. I was tested by a lab that tests for Parasite DNA and found the BH. The way I became suspicious was after taking a 10 day round of Flagyl, albeit a lousy anti-parasitic, my GI and pain vanished. It came back 2 weeks later so I was given another round of Flagyl which had a similar result but the DNA tests said Its not gone. I then did 30 days of Alinia and my symptoms have been gone for months but it appears I may still have it.
I would suggest you explore a parasitic infection but don't let them run 1 stool test. If you can do the DNA based test it would be helpful. If your doctor would give you a trial of Flagyl or Alinia, that too might be helpful.
