Hi, anyone from australia with babesia?
I dont know what its like in other countrys but for the treatment here
wellvone suspension aka mepron costs over $1000 (lasts 20 days), has anyone found a way around this? Its disgusting and I'm not sure what to do.
When my grandfather had that, he was treated at a very good hospital for it, they had several other cases at the same time, since it's very common in the area where he lived. (Matter of fact, had he been anywhere else, he'd probably not have been diagnosed in time to save him. He was in very bad shape.)
Anyway, one of the medications they gave him was quinine, plus a garden-variety antibiotic. Yup, the 19th century anti-malaria drug. Babesiosis is very very similar to malaria. Some other doctors use atovaquone, another anti-malarial.
So no, there's no reason you should spend $1000 on the treatment, there are plenty of alternatives at sane prices.

Thanks Jane, I'm pretty disapointed my doctor didn't disscuss other treatment options (i did tell her i don't have much money). Only bought one (wellvone) dose so far so it could be worse.

I am from Sydney and I have been looking for a LLMD for over a year. Some told me Dr. B Hudson from Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney but he is not a LLMD. I have met him and he does not really know how to treat lyme and other co-infections. A few weeks ago my heart got involved as well (in addition to all other symptoms that I have) and I have been to hospital quite a few times and as u guess they said we can't find anything!! My heart is very painful at the moment and I'm very worried about it. I have seen the cardiologost who keeps sending me to infectious disease specialists and they do the blood tests and then negative results and I am told that there is no problem.
Thanks
