My wife might have Lyme need a good LLD to diagnose?

My wife has had a daily headache for over 3 years now. It started off with her fainting and waking up with the headache. She also developed hypoglycemia at the same time.

Right before that happened she had been sick for a few days (we thought it was sunburn) and had also received a crazy insect bite a few weeks prior. She initially went to the ER where they checked her for meningitis which turned out negative. She also received a standard blood test for Lyme (not sure which one till we talk to her Dr. about it tomorrow since it's been 3yrs).

In the last 3yrs she has been to the ER for her headache roughly 20 different times and admitted into the hospital 4 different times for at least a week each time to try and break the headache cycle.

She is currently a patient at the Diamond Headache clinic in Chicago were she has basically been a guinea pig for the last 2+ years.

We found a few other people that had similar situations online that looks like they all turned out to actually have Lyme. I want to make sure we get her properly diagnosed. Where should we start? Our family practice Dr. is a great Dr. He seems very open to patient input (he is younger and incredibly intelligent) should we start there or is there another option? We are in Northern Indiana about 2hrs from Chicago and 3hrs from Indianapolis.

Thanks so much for any help.

That is great that your dr is so helpful and open to dialogue with patients. The best way to begin getting help for lyme is through an llmd. There should be posts that talk about how to go about this. I wish you luck in starting this process. It can be done! It is just a long journey!

Thanks for the reply. Can you point me in a more specific direction? I have already looked and don't see a sticky post explaining how to find an LLMD.

Re: My wife might have Lyme need a good LLD to diagnose?

Hi Shayne54 and welcome to this board.

Yes, your wife should see a lyme specialist, an LLMD - lyme literate medical doctor. Lyme is diagnosed primarily by symptoms but tests will also be sent to Igenex Lab in Palo Alto California. The sticky is at the top of this Lyme board just above these current messages. It is titled "Lyme Newbies". There is another post as well that addresses how to find an LLMD. We cannot post doctor's names here.

All the best,

Jen
