Question is this STARI or Lyme? Is tx correct?

I found a tick on my back 16 days ago, and my husband checked the bite for the first two days afterward. I didn't think another thing about it, even when it itched off and on, until today I saw a red ring around it. (I had looked once or twice myself prior to today and didn't see a ring.)

Went to Vanderbilt Walk-In Clinic yesterday and the doc said she's not 100% convinced it's Lyme's. She thinks it's an allergic reaction. But she called in 2 weeks of Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily 14 days. Nurse practitioner sent off my blood to be tested, first with igg iga (?) test and then if positive, western blot. She says the results will be back in 3-4 days, at which time I can stop the antibiotics if it's negative for Lyme's, or complete the two weeks if it's positive.

a) I read that allergic rashes usually show up within 72 hours of the bite and go away within a few days. This is not the case with me.

b) is two weeks of doxycycline enough? I've had only two doses so far. Will the disappearance of red ring indicate it's working? (it's still there)

c) does someone know a LLMD in the Nashville area?

Other symptoms are fatigue, strange neck popping. In retrospect, I realize that my mouth has been exceptionally dry off an on (which I attributed to depression meds) for the past couple of weeks and my left ear has been hurting (which I attributed to the fact that my t-tube has fallen out but is still in my very small ear canal). I see the ear doc Tuesday to take care of that.

TIA,

Ashley

If you have a bulls eye type rash that is often one of the more definitive diagnostic tools for LD. I wouldn't go by what this nurse or doctor said as they are not lyme disease specialists.

Two weeks is definitely not enough. Whether the rash disappears means nothing. You need to see an LLMD as soon as possible.

We cannot post doctors names here. Look for national lyme associations for an honor roll list of LLMDs. Your own research might also be productive.

Ashley,

Lyme is a serious disease that requires serious treatment by a lyme specialist. That you detected this early is a good sign but you need to continue with proper care to avoid worsening of symptoms. You might also read the sticky at the top of this board titled "lyme newbies" for more info. There is also one that advises about finding a qualified doctor.

Wishing you all the best with this.

Jen

Re: is this STARI or Lyme? Is tx correct? UPDATE

Made an appt. with LLMD, who is booked through Jan. 8! Also made an appt. with my GP for Tuesday next week.

Plan to take Dr. Barrascone's paper and my test results (which come back today or Monday) with me.

Ashley
