Lyme test doc NYC?

I got a few bites in New Jersey a few weeks ago. One of them still itches and is red, though small. No rash or other symptoms. Tick was on me less than 20 hours. My friend from Lyme says that I should go on a month of antibiotics immediately, and that the tests don't work.
I need to find a Lyme literate doctor in NYC, really hope they will take my insurance. Also going to Provincetown, Ma. and could see a doctor there.
Any ideas? thank you so much.

Re: Lyme test doc NYC?

Hi katamataka,

I Definitely agree with your friend, she is spot on about about the treatment and that the tests are very unreliable. In 1-2 weeks I would go get a Lyme test done where they will do an ELISA, if that is positive then they will do a Western Blot, but only if the ELISA is positive (and the Elisa is very unreliable). The Western Blot is still unreliable but still not as unreliable.

If you get an unexpected 'flu' or flu-like feelings go get tested as well.

You need to be on Doxycycline (300-600mg) quickly for no less than 4 weeks, Please please make sure it is a high dose and no less than 4 weeks or the Lyme bacteria will become immune and also stronger; i.e. giving the bacteria the advantage over your immune system.

Have fun in Provincetown, great place!!

Wink Re: Lyme test doc NYC?

thanks very much for the info and test specifics!
I will probably have to wait a week or 2 'til I get back...glad you know Ptown!
I have no sick feeling of any kind, and I may be sensitive to the saliva of this sort of insect. I was bitten by bedbugs years ago and had itchy red bites longer than anyone else.
so I hope it's just that. will test.
